Last of the Great Reference Plant Manuals?

Upon my first perusal of Allan Armitage’s Fourth Edition of Herbaceous Perennial Plants; A Treatise on their Identification, Culture, and Garden Attributes—all eighty pounds of it, I swear—I was overwhelmed by the enormity of the undertaking. I was actually reminded of my previous life as a Delta Airlines employee, particularly of days in the 1990s working the ramp at our Cincinnati hub, which then operated about 350 mainline and maybe 600 or 700 regional flights a day. Vintage Delta Airlines ...

Questions about zip conversion

Previously in calibre I was able to convert to jpeg when I chose to convert from epub to zip. But now when I choose to convert from epub to zip, it's still epub inside. Please let me know how I can convert to jpeg again. sorry. I translated this sentence, so there may be something strange.

Safe to upgrade to Calibre 5.8.1?

I remember updating to 5.x.x and my apprentice Alf plugins would no longer work. So I downgraded to 4.23 and everything started working again but now that my Kobo readers are using the latest firmware I get the "driver not supported error" and for some reason the last time I uploaded some books they didn't seem to show up on the "My Books" section under "most recent". I'm wondering if that's due to the fact that the Kobo drivers aren't supported in my older version of Calibre. So what I'm wonder...

Clara HD - Battery Indicator Inaccurate

Usually when my Kobo is low on power, it will warn me that it's running low and to charge it. But on at least three separate occasions, I've had the thing completely die on me (e.g. the screen froze until I plugged it in), even though the battery had been at 50% or so when I last put it to sleep. When it happened two weeks ago I inadvertently factory reset the damn thing because I held the power button too long, which sucked, but I figured maybe that would at least resolve the freaking screen fr...

Need a Historical Book recommendation

I'm writing a fantasy book about a world with a technology roughly similar to that of the early Georgian period of England. I need a book that can tell me what life was like for both the wealthy, middle class, and poor Something like Ian Mortimer's "The Time Traveller's Guide to Elizabethan England" would be great. (But he hasn't written that book yet, or, I can't find any mention of it!) I can find Romance novels, and books about women's clothing, and architecture, but very little on the ev...

[Tuto] How to transfer reading stat between Kobo

All your reading stats, shelves, collections,... are stored in a DB named "KoboReader.sqlite" in the folder /.kobo, you just have to change a line in this database to make it work. You can just copy that file from one device to the other but your new kobo will show en error. 1/you have to copy all the folders and files from your first kobo to the new device except the folder .kobo. 2/ go to .kobo on your old device, copy KoboReader.sqlite on your computer, do the same on your new device to s...

Books With Missing Files

I have a large library and I noticed over time it would get slower and slower to transfer my library so I found the guide mentioning to use file name template. I did that and went a step further due to OCD and now when I choose the option "Books with Missing Files" it says everything is missing. Also, if I choose to read the book via CC and send it to Moon Reader it says the book is missing as well. This is the template I am using. {first_author:%1.1s}/{first_author}/{series}/{title} - {authors}...

Thoughts on implementing a networked Calibre database

Will Calibre work with an overlay file system (e.g., OverlayFS in Linux)? I would like to share my Calibre database read-only over a network. I know, "Bad, bad, bad - you're on your own down the Highway To Hell, you idiot" will be the standard response I expect to hear. But read what I'm proposing. What I'm thinking is: (1) Calibre database on Computer A (2) Network share of Computer A's database to Computer B, mounted read-only on Computer B (3) OverlayFS implemented on Computer B - the ...

Greetings Folks

Hi There So I joined because I recently got a used Sharper Image Literati from a Flea Market for $3 and while I like it. I have a couple of issues with 1. The Kobo App that comes with the Literati when plugged into a PC gives me an error saying that it doesn't recognize my Literati and 2. I can't sign in on the Kobo Store on the Literati due to it saying it can't connect to the Kobo Servers (I can connect to the internet on it fine though) Otherwise. I'm liking the new addition to my Tech Coll...

Daniel Defense Delta 5 Rifle: On-Point or Pointless? ~ VIDEO

AmmoLand News Editor, Jim Grant, gives us a video range report on the Daniel Defense Delta 5 Rifle. U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- When Daniel Defense announced the introduction of the Delta 5 Rifle, my first question was why? It's like hearing that Ferrari is getting into pickup trucks. Doesn't mean they won't make a great one, but it's not exactly their core market. Don't get me wrong, all the marketing material, glamor shots, and massive billboard ads at SHOT Show 2020 definitely got me salivatin...

[HOWTO] Create your own native development environment on your Kobo!

Hi, It's been a while since I last posted, but now I think I have something to share with you. Those last months, I wasn't finding any interesting books to read and started to find my Kobo just ... boring. And I thought 'then maybe some hacking could be fun' and here I am with this guide. It will help you set up Alpine Linux with gcc, g++ or clang to develop custom applications for your Kobo. I didn't worked out how to run X yet, but maybe I will in the future. Then you could use them (if they a...

"If Batman did meth..."

Seen on the bookface: Now I want to write "Trailer Park Bruce Wayne". Instead of a hidden garage in a hillside, the "Bat Cave" is a carport and the Batmobile is concealed under a tarp. Bruce's buddy Al is this guy who rents the spare bedroom and keeps the Batmobile's smoke screen tanks topped off with Winstons and drives down to the Circle K to swap out the propane tanks for the flamethrowers. It looks like someone was making a Jack Daniels-fueled attempt at cloning the Cooper Markette, al...

Calibre slow on Mac (colour wheel on every move)

Hello, I am running Calibre 5.8.1 on macOS 10.14.6 and I'm experiencing a laggy, spinning colour wheel problem. Whenever I try to scroll, select or point to any item in my library (of only 40 books), Calibre freezes for around 5 seconds and spins the colour wheel before being able to make a move. This happens no matter I'm connecting or not to any devices. It also occurs when I switch to another application (e.g. Firefox) and then switch back to Calibre. This problem began to happen a few update...

SIG SAUER P365 XL Romeo Zero EDC Pistol – Review

SIG SAUER P365 XL Romeo Zero U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- I own many firearms and have a couple of favorites depending on the situation and my mood. I would however argue that the most important firearm that any of us own would probably be the one we carry every day, often referred to as our EDC (everyday carry.) An explanation here might not be necessary but just in case you’re wondering why I would say that. It is quite simply a matter of probability. SIG SAUER P365 XL Romeo Zero The weapon w...

Screen Issue (Kobo Aura H2O)

After trying to revive my Kobo Aura H2O with a factory sd card image and attempting to get Koreader running again, I'm now left with a defecive screen. I suspect that the connectors (the wider one, b.c. backlight works) at the back are to blame, but have no idea what I could do about it. Repositioning them has made no difference. Has this happened to anyone else before? Is there anything I can do?
