Rainbow Heart Hanger

Here's a quick and simple make that will brighten any space. All you'll need are very basic sewing skills, some coloured felt and a bit of ribbon. You could easily adapt this project to make an Ombre version (just use different shades of the same colour) or play around with the order of the colours for a different look. There's a video version of the tutorial available here: https://youtu.be/8yzUEA4zBEo [Author: Helen W.]

Temporal disobedience

Hate turning your clock back? You’re not alone. Here’s guest Ranter James Roush’s opinion of it: That’s it. Professor Roush has had it! I’m done with the stupid seasonal time change and done with all of the turmoil it induces in our biological systems, including  increased automobile accidents, increased heart attacks, and increased suicides. It is time that we, gardeners and farmers, lead a revolt. There was never a proven worthwhile reason for kicking the clocks back and there are plenty of b...

2020 dolls in review

I do a review every year although sometimes it happens a little late (like this year). What a crazy day- I was a bit reluctant to post this today with the high of the win in Georgia followed by the madness in Washington. But I will do it anyway because who knows what tomorrow will bring. And honestly, maybe posting about a crazy year is best done on a crazy day. 1. Tiny World Pincushion 2, 2. Tiny World Pincushion 1, 3. Tiny World pincushion 3, 4. Tiny World Fairy House pincushion, 5. Ti...

*SCABS’N’GUTS* Human Body Board Game

If you haven’t been here before, I am a homeschool mama to six boys. It’s wild and crazy around here, and games are one of the best tools I have to help my boys learn with their whole hearts, minds, and bodies.  Kids love hands-on learning, and games are the easiest way I’ve found to […]

Tablets - not just for PDFs

I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but it seemed to fit. I discovered yesterday that my local library has a new app, and installed it on my 10.1 inch tablet. This turned out to be a great idea for helping me with my goal of reading more poetry. Some here have commented that for them, poetry is best read from paper books because physical formats can preserve the visual structure intended by the poet. Paper books are not an option for me, so I was delighted to discover that the anthology ...

*MIYABI* Japanese Garden Puzzle-y Tetris Math Game

I don’t know if it’s because I grew up in the era of the original Nintendo, but games that resemble Tetris in any way really call to me. Our whole family loves puzzles and Tetris, and Miyabi is a really fun and beautiful game with similar shape-manipulation elements. What it also has is a beautiful […]

Alternate Android ereading app

I do much of my reading on my Android phone using Moon+ Pro and I'm completely satisfied with it but I would like to find a really good second app that I can use to look up things in other books without stopping my current read. I've tried a few and I really don't care for any of them. Let me give an example of what I want from it: I'm currently reading a book with a lot of characters and at 80 years of age names don't always stay with me. So I've created a character list and uploaded it to ...

TFB PSA: Avoiding Scams When Purchasing Ammunition Online

Ammunition is not only hard to come by these days but it is also extremely overpriced due to the numerous surrounding factors of this whirlwind of a year. Is there a way to copy one app's library so another app can access it?

The OneBookShelf app can download purchased pdfs to its own library, at [internal disk]/Documents/DriveThruRPG. Their recommended reader (Xodo) strobes on my device (Likebook Mars). One of my preferred readers (the Boyue OS reader, since it works well with the mid-sized e-ink screen, and most apps don't) can only read from libraries in [internal disk]/Books or/books or [sd card]/Books or /books. So it'd be handy to be able to copy selected files from locations under [internal disk]/Documents ...

wht.wal from Impact Architectural Lighting

Readers will recall our feature in 2019 about Impact Architectural Lighting, focusing on an ethereal circular pendant lamp best described as a “luminous donut of light.” Some two years hence we’ve got wht.wal redux, as the fine fixture was recently featured in an inspired installation at CCSD JM Ullom Elementary School in Las Vegas. The pendant does have a bit of an upscale Vegas vibe. It’s eye-catching yet elegant, showy without being ostentatious. It also provides appealing a...

Inverted screen function for new reader. Kobo only?

Hey, After more than 10 years reading on small screens (one Bookeen and two Kobo, Glo and Glo HD), I am just looking to try out large screen readers. I am thinking about Kobo Aura One, Forma or Pocketbook Inkpad 3. I currently have a Kobo Glo HD, and I love the hacking scene, especially the inverted mode (dark screen, white writing). Can this invert screen stuff be achieved Kobo only? Or pocketbook would be OK too? Maybe it's a functionnality of KOReader? Side question, which one from Kobo...

‘Star Wars: The High Republic – A Test of Courage’ Review: A Young Adult Novel That Proves Thrilling for All Ages

This review will touch on some plot points that some readers may not want to know in advance. So consider this a minor spoiler warning. Author Justina Ireland gives us the second installment of The High Republic with the utterly delightful book Star Wars: The High Republic –  A Test of Courage.  Though it’s aimed at younger readers than the adult-oriented Light of the Jedi , people are going to find this book a lot of fun. It centers around Vernestra Rwoh, a Mirialan Jedi who, at o...

Congressional Legislation 101 – Types Of Measures

U S Capital Building Congress United States – -(AmmoLand.com)- With the 117th Congress in session, there will be a flurry of legislation introduced. But what exactly does an introduced measure do? What do those combinations of letters and numbers in front of a bill mean? For starters, any Senator or Representative can introduce a piece of legislation. For the most part, they will be numbered in the order received – a bill with a lower number was introduced earlier in the Congress than one wit...

AK 2.0 – Finnish Upgrade Kit for Kalashnikov Rifles by Value Manufacturing

When it comes to AK upgrades, the average Kalashnikov aficionado is torn between American made accessories and Russian products that are often unavailable in the US and worldwide. For me, that seems odd, since, over the years, at least 30 countries produced different variants of the AK rifles. Why all those countries do not produce AK […] Read More … The post AK 2.0 – Finnish Upgrade Kit for Kalashnikov Rifles by Value Manufacturing appeared first on The Firearm Blog.

New rare book catalogue features a Soviet Space Race picture book with backyard-built rocket

As a rare book dealer and specialist in the history of the book, I view printed texts as historical artifacts, holding material clues to the past. When it comes to children's books, we tend to see them as a reflection of their target readers, but they more often convey the hopes and anxieties of the adults who created them. — Read the rest
