Botanical Relief Art

I tried my hand at a clay version of botanical relief and shared those jewelry holders last week. It was a satisfying project because I love working with different materials and making things with my hands. Relief sculpture dates back to the dawn of humanity, we’ve always been storytellers through art and we are creative by nature. My fascination with bas relief art continues, the raised impressions of botanicals cast in plaster are so beautiful. I love the isolation of natural elements preserve...

Kobo Glo HD stuck on white screen with black flashing

Hello, I haven't used my Kobo Glo HD (2015) in quite some time. I've charged it and tried to turn it back on. But it doesn't work : the screen stays white. I tried powering it on / off with the main button, it turns up a red light on the button then the screen has two black flashs then stays white. I tried manual reset with the paper clip : same two black flashs. When I connect it to a wall charger it sometimes does the two black flashs. How can I solve this ? I read this thread ( http...

Output Options...Split File...Size

When I am converting from MS Word .docx to EPUB2, I notice that I get a lot of .html files. Under Preferences > Output Options, I see my "Split files larger than:" is set to 260KB. Where does everyone else set theirs? Is it better to keep it this low? What are the pros-and-cons of larger or smaller files? Can it be set, somehow, to split the files at chapters? If it's really just a matter of how large of files I want to deal with for cleanup, that's a fine answer too. I just have no clue if ther...

Color of background makes colors hard to see

I changed my laptop setting from Dark to Light. Whenever I use Calibre, it is in dark mode. After changing my laptop setting to Light, the Calibre background washes out a lot of the colored text now, making it difficult to see the text color. I tried both system interface options, calibre style and system style, but Calibre stays in Light mode. This is after I changed my laptop setting back to Dark. I made some rules for certain book categories to be a particular color. How do I either get ...

DIY giant heart-shaped candy box Valentine's Day decoration

This year I decided to make the ultimate, oversized decoration for Valentine's Day, and took inspiration from the classic heart-shaped box of candy. How fun would it be to create a giant heart-shaped box filled with faux candy that could be used for a bold Valentine's Day decoration? It would be the perfect statement piece for romantic decor and I was so excited to get started. Creating a giant heart-shaped box of candy took some effort but pretty normal supplies, such as cardboard, duct tape...

How a 15-year quest to find the work of Black comic book artists became ‘Invisible Men’

Twenty years ago, comic book historian Ken Quattro began digging for information on an artist named Matt Baker. “I couldn’t find anything about him anywhere,” says Quattro during a phone interview. “The only thing people knew, basically, was he died when he was young and he was Black.” A comic book fan since the early 1960s who has written thousands of articles on the subject, Quattro kept searching and that quest resulted in his book “Invisible Men: The Trailblazing Black Artists of Comic Books...

Bulk renaming files

Hi Kovid, When renaming multiple files on the Editor, it throws an error if some of the files has the same name as before. Can't calibre just ignore this? Example: Original: Code: file001.html file003.html file003a.html file004.html file008.hmtl After renaming: Code: file001.html file002.html file003.html file004.html file005.hmtl The 4th file has the same name before and after, which causes calibre not renaming any file.
