Green Kitchen Cabinets

I remember when I posted about taupe kitchen cabinets a few years ago and one of my clients loved the look so much she refinished her cabinets in a favorite taupe paint color (‘Pashmina’ by Benjamin Moore). That kitchen reveal is coming next month! Escrow closes on Monday on my new fixer upper project. For this renovation, I want to install a combination of soft green and pale wood cabinets in the kitchen. Green cabinets are trending right now, but just because something is trending doesn’t mean...

Counterintuitively Intuitive

Fountain pens, automatic watches, tube amps, revolvers, mechanical cameras... There's a certain fascination with this bygone tech. I've gone on before about how I love the mechanical nature of the Leica III. If all you want to do is wind it up and click the shutter, that alone is enjoyable. Assuming, however, that you want to use it to actually make photographs, the process is a little more involved. Just getting the film into the camera with an old Barnack Leica can be an adventure for the uni...

BANISH 45 Pistol Suppressor – Review

Since it’s a 45-cal suppressor, it’s a bit big in the full configuration on the author’s Glock 19. U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- If you read my review of the BANISH 22 rimfire suppressor, then you’ll recall that I put off buying a suppressor for a long time before deciding that I had put it off long enough and bought not one – but three – suppressors. I purchased cans in .22, .45, and .30 calibers to cover all of my bases in terms of calibers and guns that I already own and calibers and guns that ...

4,000 Priceless Scrolls, Texts & Papers From the University of Tokyo Have Been Digitized & Put Online

The phrase “opening of Japan” is a euphemism that has outlived its purpose, serving to cloud rather than explain how a country closed to outsiders suddenly, in the mid-19th century, became a major influence in art and design worldwide. Negotiations were carried out at gunpoint. In 1853, Commodore Matthew Perry presented the Japanese with two white flags to raise when they were ready to surrender. (The Japanese called Perry’s fleet the “black ships of evil men.”) In one of innumerable historical...

SIX Gun Bills Introduced Day ONE of Colorado Legislative Session

SIX Gun Bills Introduced Day ONE of Colorado Legislative Session, iStock-884190572 U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- As promised, the 73rd Colorado General Assembly reconvened yesterday after taking a month-long recess due to COVID. It makes us wonder how much they are even needed if they can just recess on a whim. On their first day back in session over 200 bills were introduced, 6 of them firearms related. We do anticipate more gun control bills to be introduced in the coming days, primarily a “mand...

Print search result as a table plugin?

Hello everyone, thank you again mister kovidgoyal for all the hard work, very much appreciated. I was cleaning up my works and related documents and came upon a thought that would make my (and probably others) life easier. a plugin to print either as HTML or a table in office or OpenOffice product which would display my current search the way it is represented on the screen, i.e. sort order? I searched a lot on the subject, either through plugin adder within Calibre, google search and forum s...

Diagnosing Kobo touch issues [non-responsive to touch]

I have a Kobo mini which has worked fine for some time. However, last week, in the space about 20 minutes, it went from working fine to responding erratically and inaccurately to touch (choosing the 'wrong' thing) to not responding to touch at all. It appear fine otherwise, the system loads up and isn't frozen, everything displays normally, and I've tried resetting things and so on. But it simply seems to not register any touches whatsoever (but otherwise seems fine). Does anyone have sugges...

Is the Mars screen any good?

I currently own a Nova 3, which I am quite happy with, but for one thing: the screen. Having a flush glass screen makes the text ever so slightly unfocused/blurry, and I'm considering selling the device. It works better with higher contrast and backlight, but since I don't want to use the latter it's not a solution for me. Would the Likebook Mars be a good substitute? How is the screen compared to Onyx Boox flush glass screens? Or compared to a Kindle Paperwhite 3/basic kindle? (I'm aware that ...

New Book Gives Advice to Native Plant Lovers Battling Deer

Despite what you may have earnestly been told through grapevines that should know better, deer do not avoid native plants due to a convenient co-evolutionary agreement between flora and fauna. Whether they’re the white-tailed marauders of the East Coast, or the long-eared mule deer of my California childhood, deer consider native foliage just as palatable as the exotic treats collectors find nibbled and stripped when the sun rises on a new and tragic day. So, with native plants featuring ever-h...

‘Binti’ novelist Nnedi Okorafor reveals how new book reflects back on the pandemic

In her latest work, “Remote Control,” author Nnedi Okorafor notes the 2020 pandemic in passing, referring to it as a moment in history that’s being recalled years later in a fictional future. The award-winning author of the Binti trilogy, the Akata series and works such as “Lagoon” and “Who Fears Death,” Okorafor was finishing up edits on “Remote Control” during a COVID-19 lockdown. “I had that thing that almost every science fiction writer who is writing something set in the future has to conte...
