Sign of the Times

Because I try and keep at least a trickle of ammo coming in for testing purposes, I'm winding up seeing weird stuff in these days of beggars not being choosers. Importers and wholesalers are finding what they can get and selling it on. The most recent acquisition, purchased from Lucky Gunner, was some 9x19mm 115gr JHP from IMI Systems that they're calling "Di-Cut". It comes in brown cardboard fifty-round boxes. The primers appear to be sealed and the bullet has a sort of SXT look to it. I'll ...

Cleanup on Aisle GBBL

From the Gun Blog Black List:"I took it over in 2013 after the others had to leave for professional reasons (can't blog AND be a paid gun writer)."Huh. TFB Review: Jard’s Set Trigger For AR-15 Pattern Rifles (A First For ARs)

AR-15 triggers have been one of Jard Inc.’s specialties, but they’ve claimed a first in the firearms industry by creating a Set Trigger for AR-15 rifles and pistols. Help! Calibre no longer converts any books!

I've been using this gem for ages and ages -- even sent the author some compensation for it out of gratitude. But when I very recently upgraded from 64-bit Windows 7 to 64-bit Windows 10, the nightmare began. Updating to Calibre 5, I found I couldn't even read many of my books let alone convert them. There was no DRM present in any of them. And yes, I also updated to Python 3 in Windows path...but still no go. I finally reverted BACK to Calibre 4.23 with Python 2.7 in Windows 10 (after complet...

Screensaver (coverimage plugin) on Pocketbook device won't work

Hello, I'm new to the forum! First of all, I got a Pocketbook Touch Lux 5 - PB628 device for christmas, and it was a nice upgrade after my 7th gen PW3. I installed Koreader because I was curious, and I only read using that. However, the screensaver function would be nice to have, and I set it up according to the wiki.https://github.com/koreader/koreader/wiki/Coverimage I use the latest stable version, and tried it on the nightly too. The problem is this: Koreader creates the "cover.bmp" file i...

The absolutely improved, modern version of the semi-dangerous red water rocket toy I loved so much

I loved that little red water rocket and the associated white pump. Well-made and of extremely hard plastic, I could pump so much pressure into that bottle my 4 year-younger brother would howl on impact. You had to learn, however, to stand far enough away from your target to allow maximum acceleration while maintaining aim. — Read the rest

This Smart Rubik's Cube Is Teaching Me How to Solve One After 40 Years of Failure

A robot built out of Lego can solve a Rubik’s Cube in about 3.2 seconds, but some 40 years after I first picked up the iconic puzzle, I’ve yet to solve it on my own. PW Is there any hope for my Kindle?

I have a Kindle Paperwhite 1 that isn't turning on, the screen is just blank. I've tried long pressing the power button to force a restart, but nothing so far. My next step is to leave it plugged into the wall charger for the next 24-48 hours and try again, but I've noticed that when I first plugged the charger into the Kindle the amber light came on for 3-4 seconds and then turned off and it doesn't come back on (no matter how many times I pull out and plug the charger back in). Kobo Aura One -vs- Forma ?

So, as you may know, I've been debating Forma vs Libra. However, a local used Kobo Aura One has come up at 1/2 the price of a Forma. Since both seem very similar, besides the hard page buttons and 0.2" screen difference, is there ANY reason(s) to still pay a lot more for a Forma? I mean in features and viewing ability, anything pushing one way or the other? I haven't research Auro One to see if there were known issues (as in why this one might be up for sale). Lastly, does the Libra compete...

How this Redlands professor unlocked the mysteries of ‘Harriet the Spy’ and its author

When the children’s novel “Harriet the Spy” arrived in 1964, Leslie Brody was an 11-year-old on Long Island. That was just a short trip to the Upper East Side neighborhood of the fictional 11-year-old spy and writer Harriet M. Welsch. Yet despite their geographic proximity and shared love of tomato sandwiches on white bread, Brody didn’t discover Harriet and the beloved classic by author and illustrator Louise Fitzhugh until 1988 when the writer’s literary estate hired her to adapt the book for ...
