Destination Design: Riviera Maya + Tulum

The destination design series slipped my mind in March so it’s back for April, and this month’s feature is the Riviera Maya on the east coast of Mexico. I visited a few years ago with a cousin, she invited me to stay with her in the Grand Sirenes resort and it was a blissful experience. Although it was a 90 minute journey by van from Cancun airport, once you arrive in the region you understand why so many people love to visit the Riviera Maya. Tulum is a hotspot right now even during Covid, draw...

"Unknow Author" in cbz files with Kobo

Hello! I'm a newbie with ebooks, so sorry if I'm in the wrong part of the forum :smack: I bought a Kobo Aura HD and downloaded some mangas to read, all in cbz format! I used Calibre to transfer them to kobo and all went well except they all keep showing with no metadata at all :( I tried to search for people with this same problem but I could not find the answer or a recent post, just old ones. Thank you in advance ^^

Magpul PMAG AK74 Long Term Review

Magpul keeps up the excellence with the PMag 30 AK74 MOE Ever since I picked up a pair of Arsenal’s Legion Izhevsk Saiga 5.45’s, I’ve quite enjoyed the 5.45×39 AK74 platform.  I’ve found my particular examples to be soft-shooting and accurate to boot.  The value-priced (at the time I bought it) 5.4×39 ammunition aids matters […] Read More … The post Magpul PMAG AK74 Long Term Review appeared first on The Firearm Blog.

Potted Ginger Plant Yields an Unexpected Surprise

Last fall I wrote an article detailing my first attempts at growing baby ginger in the home garden. It was a big surprise to see how well the crop did in spite of the fact that I didn’t faithfully follow all of the cultural instructions as outlined by East Branch Ginger.Well I was in for another surprise from a few potted ginger plants that were raised outdoors in containers during the summer and moved indoors for the winter. They seemed to do fine for a while and then suddenly went into a rapid...

Bee Thinking: Specialty Hives and Supplies

The second stop during my trip to Portland, Oregon was to visit the Bee Thinking retail store located just a short drive outside of the city. I was familiar with their operation since that is the source that I used to purchase the top bars that went into my homemade beehives.Matt Reed and his wife Jill, who own Bee Thinking had always been helpful with any questions that came up, and I have been impressed by their selection of products. So when Pennington Seed invited me to visit the area I also...

Forma Default orientation in portrait mode

Hello, I have a Kobo forma and I mainly read in portrait mode ... buttons at the bottom. So when I start reading, I put my kobo on the table with the buttons at the bottom (because of the Kobo case) and the screen is always upside down. So I have to take the e-reader, turn it over, then turn it over again so that it accepts the reading direction I have chosen. My question is therefore: is there a possibility of forcing the orientation mode in portrait mode with the reading on the button side...

Change Case of ALL tags?

I spent Wednesday morning tidying up my tag library, and have slashed it from 500+ to 87 - much more to my liking. However KOReader's listing of Calibre tags is case-sensitive, which affects its sorting, obviously. Is there a way to change all tags to title case, so that will be consistently sorted by KOReader?

The Portland Homestead Supply Company

I stumbled unto the   earlier this spring during a visit to Portland, Oregon. What first caught my attention was a rack of vegetable and herb plants that were on display right out in front on the sidewalk. From there I noticed crates containing small livestock like chickens and ducks, and knew that I would have to take a peek inside to find out just what was in store with this unusual business that was surrounded by more typical small town shops, restaurants, and even a small micro-brewery. ...

Using Row Covers in the Veggie Garden

The previous article looked at row covers, cold frames, cloches, and other techniques for protecting the garden during winter, but I wanted to take a closer look at one method in particular. While cold frames are still my favorite tools for cold weather gardening, the simpler row covers are gaining in favor because they are more versatile for general garden uses.I believe that row covers have more practical applications and that they find uses in a wider range of climates than cold frames do. Ro...

Libra calibre sync questions

I've had this Libra for a couple of days (love it already!). Loaded up NickelMenu and KOReader. I've found two ways to connect it to calibre to load books -- direct by connecting it to my computer with a usb cable, and from KOReader wirelessly. When I connect with a usb cable, it copies /mnt/onboard. When I first connected with KOReader, I remember seeing a suggestion about not using the /mnt/onboard to put my books, so I created a directory called /mnt/calibre and KOReader copies books there....

How to Simplify Growing Mushrooms

Most people get it backwards! They love mushrooms, and think Chanterelles are wonderful, so they look for Chanterelle spawn. If they manage to find it, they are disappointed to learn that Chanterelles require conditions which are not present in their own back yard or home. They sigh, and give up, because they are just too hard to grow!If you start with the mushroom, growing mushrooms can be very difficult. You are required to produce conditions which the mushroom you want to grow, actually thriv...

Spring Returns

The time is here! The daffodils are beginning to bloom. From ‘Little Gem’ to ‘Ice Follies’ to ‘King Alfred’ and ‘Rijnveld’s Early Sensation’, flowers are emerging all over the property. They are not alone, either. Grape hyacinths, fritillaries, and squill have all sprung open this week, too.  There is often a push and pull at the beginning of spring. The winter weather is mostly gone, but nights can still drop below freezing and rain can feel more like a punishment than a pleasure. But, overall,...

Highlights from the Spring Vegetable Garden

It’s still early in the spring vegetable garden and the majority of the planting is still ahead of me but I wanted to share some highlights and a couple of disappointments from this stage of the growing season.Starting out with the old reliable crops that I can always depend on; the fall planted garlic, shallots, and multiplier onions are looking like they will all yield an awesome harvest this summer with plants that tall, healthy, and care-free.
