In White House Garden News, it’s Dandeliongate!

I’m blaming Twitter. My feed of pundits and reporters pointed me to this clip on Newsmax, a channel I’ve never dared look at. It shows a host mocking Joe Biden for picking a dandelion and giving it to his wife. Oh wait, “bizarrely” giving her the dandelion. So worthy of being mocked as a phony “gate.”  I’ll get a good laugh at this because if this is the level of controversy or “gate” we’ll have to endure during the Biden years, great! That would mean nothing really rant-worthy is going on. ...

Very long KFX book crashes on Voyage

I bought the Cambridge collection (71 volumes, 40,000+ printed pages) when it was on sale (mentioned in the deals forum). I downloaded it to my Voyage but it kept rebooting the Voyage when I tried to read it. I tried to copy it to Calibre, but was informed that this was a KFX formatted book and suggested I download via the USB option. That worked, I copied it to my Voyage and now I can read it. Question: Do you think a time is coming when non-KFX options from Amazon will not be available? This i...

I'm new and need help with docx

Hi, I'm happy to be part of the forum! I've written a book in word that is approximately 63 pages. I saved it as a doc. format. I learned about ePublishing and understand that it needs to be in docx. format, correct? The only problem is, in Word (I have Word 2007), there is no docx. option to save as. Is XML the same as docx? Does anyone know why docx is not a save/save as option in word? Thanks!

Trying Out The Franklin Armory BFSIII AK-C1 Binary Trigger

Trying Out The Franklin Armory BFSIII AK-C1 U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)- I have a few binary triggers from a few different companies. One of my favorite makers of binary triggers is Franklin Armory. I have Franklin Armory binary triggers in a few of my AR15s, and I even have a Franklin Armory trigger in my CZ Scorpion Evo 3. That was fun to shoot until ammo prices went crazy. Then it was not so much fun, but that isn’t on Franklin Armory. That is on panic buying and new gun owners. I was excited ...

On the Smugglers’ Radar: May 2021

“On The Smugglers’ Radar” is a feature for books that have caught our eye: books we have heard of via other readers, directly from publishers, and/or from our regular incursions from various corners of the interwebs. Because we want far more books than we can possibly buy or review (what else is new?), we are revamping the Smugglers’ Radar into a monthly (mostly) SFF-focused feature – so YOU can tell us which books you have on your radar as well! As of last month, all of our monthly picks can...

Weekend Reading 5.2.21

Isn’t May the best month? I think it wins first place, with September a close second. Those months dance on the edge of seasons and always have the best weather. I had another pickleball lesson with my son today, what a fun time we’re having. Next week we’re playing an official game, and I bought two new skorts from this site to wear at the court. Things are progressing on the flip house, the kitchen cabinets arrive next month and the bathrooms are in progress. The showers are challenging since ...

How Texans Lost the Right to Bear Handguns

U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- During the debate over HB1927, in the Texas Senate Special Committee on Constitutional Issues, Senator Eddie Lucio (D) made a startling assertion. He stated Texans could not have the right to bear arms restored because the right to bear arms has not been infringed. At about 05:01:50, He asked, During the testimony of Andi Turner, Legislative Director for the Texas State Rifle Association: When did we lose them?… Later he said, about 05:04:30 : We never lost the right ...

Finding Outside-the-Box Alternatives to .22 LR During an Ammo Shortage

The .17 Mach 2 uses the same bullets as the .17 HMR – a good solution to that ammo shortage. IMG David Lapell U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- With all the speculation and the ruling party of Democrats seeing bloodlust towards stripping gun owners of their rights these days, the ammo shortage we’ve been seeing not only shows any signs of letting up, but there’s the likelihood that it’s going to get worse. The local gun shops I visit, usually a couple of times a week have next to nothing, and when some...

How the real-life exploits of a pioneering aviatrix inspired Maggie Shipstead’s novel ‘Great Circle’

There’s a family legend about Maggie Shipstead that is so ironic it still gets retold.  During a family visit to Michigan, Shipstead’s mother asked the 6-year-old Maggie and her brother if they’d like to visit Niagara Falls. “I just burst into tears,” recalls the author. “I was a risk-averse child who didn’t want to go anywhere or do anything new.” Born and raised in Orange County, Shipstead, 38, has since built a career as a literary novelist and travel writer specializing in risky assignm...

A Busy May Day

What a beautiful May Day it was!  REMINDER: Get wet in the first rain of May for good health all year. (It's my family tradition and I interpret it loosely--get some rain on your hand and you're good.) Josie and I made a start on Friday of moving stuff out of the greenhouse. There was a lot of potting soil on the floor and she helped by using a little trowel to scrape it up and put it in the bed. "This is the best day ever!" she said. She loves to help. And she loves being ou...

Five things you need to know about pronouns

What is there to know about pronouns? Something about its and it’s and something else about between you and me.There is plenty more, it turns out.First off, there are more pronouns than you might think. Personal pronouns get most of the attention nowadays, especially the widely accepted singular they and other non-binary pronouns. But personal pronouns are just one group among several. There are reflexive (or self) forms, indefinite pronouns like everyone, anyone, and someone (or the more inform...

Hi! :) I like the Ebook viewer and the way we can customize its interface. Is it also possible to change the way I move forward? The current control is the "space" key on the keyboard but I'd like to control it with the mouse (by left clicking on the page). Thanks for this great program and keep up the good work!

Antitrust: Hawley and Klobuchar on the big tech battles to come

The Democrat seems focused on the supreme courtHawley rails at big tech firms but he has invested in themAntitrust is hot. In February, the Minnesota senator Amy Klobuchar introduced the Competition and Antitrust Law Enforcement Reform Act of 2021.
