These Are the Internet’s Most Loved Hair Dryers

I need a new hair dryer. The very expensive, very fabulous BioIonic I bought in grad school died a dramatic death several years ago, after more than ten years of faithful service. The blogger-freebie Conair I’ve been using the last few years in its place has got to the point where it doesn’t seem to be so much drying my hair as beating it into submission. I’ve got to do something. So, I asked the internet. More precisely, I made the rounds to the major online stores where one might purchase a ha...

Sunday Firesides: The Moral Weight of Gifts

We’re coming up on three weeks post-Christmas, and chances are you still have one gift lying around that remains unopened or unused. You’ll probably let it sit on a counter or a shelf for a while longer, and then stick it in a drawer or cabinet somewhere, before finally throwing it away, perhaps years from now. The fact that we go through this process of having to let the gift sit, before feeling okay with getting rid of it, tells us something important: gifts carry a moral obligation. Gifts e...

Hailey Baldwin Just Said "Bye-Bye, Blond!" and Debuted a Cotton-Candy Pink Hair Color

When people think of Hailey Baldwin, a few things come to mind: her wildfire supermodel career, her chic fashion sense, her marriage to the one and only Justin Bieber, and her trendsetting hairstyles. Just a month after debuting a chin-length bob, the 22-year-old model is shaking things up once again by dyeing her signature blond hair a cotton-candy pink shade. This is far from the first time Baldwin has decided to "think pink." She embraced a rosy hue for the Met Gala last May, and while her c...

Golden Globe Awards – 2019 Red Carpet Standouts

It is not lost on me that the 2019 Golden Globe Awards had some of the best fashion looks in the last decade, and it’s the first year without Fashion Police. Perhaps celebrities and stylists are more apt to take risks without the public backlash that comes with a less than stellar fashion choice? It’s … Continue reading "Golden Globe Awards – 2019 Red Carpet Standouts" The post Golden Globe Awards – 2019 Red Carpet Standouts appeared first on The Dishmaster.

Finally built the new shed!!

After blogging about it plenty of times, starting at 9am and finishing around 5:30pm, today I built my new shed! Man, that is a long time – and it is not even finished! First up was emptying the old shed, tearing it down, moving it out of the way, cleaning up the old brushwood I’d stuffed behind it two summers ago, cleaning up all the rocks I exhumed three years back, sweeping the concrete plate, then beginning the build. I got all that done maybe by 10am, within an hour. Until 12 I put on the n...

Yes, celeb perfumes are still around. And these are the ones you need to get!Choosing a perfume is hard. A Plant for Every Room in Your Home

It’s easy to see why we reach for plants in a decorative pinch: they’re vibrant, they’re aromatic, and they add a simple decorative touch to space that may be lacking. Here are the indoor plants you should keep in each room, based on their purpose. Eucalyptus ...

Prepare To Be Endeared By The Flawed Look Of Baroque Pearl Jewelry

When we think of pearls, it's easy to imagine perfectly-polished, circular gemstones whose high quality is also apparent in the corresponding price tag. This season, the fashion world is here to embrace imperfection with baroque pearls. These freshwater pearls (and their faux counterparts for those looking for a thrifty option) are not the prim, uniform, rounded styles preferred by Veronica Lodge-type perfectionists, but rather each stone is wonderfully unique. From earrings to bracelets and eve...

Over the last few years, female celebrities have been spotted on the red carpet embracing a trend that was once considered taboo: their gray hair. What’s their beef? Why today’s leading men are driven to be buff

Aidan Turner’s Poldark has ushered in a new age of brawn, but many are asking if the trend has gone too farModern screen heroes come in many guises, but whether a leading man is cast as a mathematician, a surgeon or a scientist, the likelihood is that, once the shirt comes off, he will be equipped with both a firm abdomen and bulbous biceps.A new appetite for leading men who, whether or not they are playing professional athletes, appear to spend half the week in the gym is now concerning even es...

Monty Panesar was on Celebrity Mastermind and it did not go well

Monty Panesar on Mastermind (iPlayer) We love Monty Panesar – absolutely love him – but his Celebrity Mastermind appearance was not a triumph. The pressure clearly got to him during the general knowledge round and he appeared to lose the ability to comprehend English sentences. What followed was a sort of word association exercise where Monty blurted out whatever happened to be passing through his brain each time John Humphrys stopped talking. Monty gave some very fine wr...
