Mark Birley For Men Review

Today, the British niche brand Mark Birley is experiencing an evanescent interest. There is no advertising, web hype has long been reduced to zero, and the last bottles of fragrances are hidden on the shelves, waiting for curious perfumistas. Meanwhile, it is a famous niche fragrance, on the level of Nombre Noire Shiseido. Serge Lutens tried his hand at perfumery, creating Nombre Noire Shiseido ... Nasomatto Fantomas: I Need a Brain, Yours Will Do!

Let's go straight to the main point - why Fantomas? Fantomas is a phantom character, a ghost, something not material that takes advantage of our material world. There is obviously a joke implied in the perfume, like it was with ELDO's Rien: Imagine that you enter an elevator and instead of the standard 'elevator music' - the classic "nothing" - you hear something by As I Lay Dying at high volume. ... How To Plan A Happy Life in 2021

Everyone can agree that 2020 was a little bit of a sh*t show. “Happy” would probably not be one of the first adjectives people would use to describe how they feel about the last 12 months. We are excited to share that The Happy Planner has just released TWO special-edition collections with Disney: The Happy Planner featuring Disney Mickey Mous...

There Weren’t A Lot of Major Makeup Trends In 2020 But Here’s One That Should Go Away

2020 will go down in history as the year we all embraced self care and letting our skin breath again! We all scooped as much skincare as we could get our hands on and hunkered down in front of our desks wearing the most moisturizing of sheet masks. I have and always will be a skincare junkie so taking care of my skin and indulging it in a variety of products isn’t really a new normal for me. If I’m not wearing makeup I look quite young. Combined with my larger brown eyes I end up looking li...

Processed foods make us fatter and are linked to a higher risk of cancer. Here’s what science suggests we should eat instead.

Quesadillas made with canned beans, store-bought tortillas, deli meat, and shredded cheese are considered processed food. LauriPatterson/Getty Images Eating processed foods can lead to weight gain and is linked to higher rates of cancer, heart disease and early death. But it can be difficult to avoid these items when we're busy or looking for something cheap to eat. Researchers at the National Institutes of Health recently developed unprocessed menus to feed patients at their diet research...

I Think I Need Ulta Gloss Stick and Lumistick Under Eye Brightener

I think I may need to check out those new Ulta Gloss Sticks and the new Lumistick Under Eye Brightener. Ulta’s busy refreshing their catalog for Spring 2021 so a lot of new products are popping up here and there and of course, as a girl with tired eyes, the Ulta Lumistick Under Eye Brightener was the first item that caught my eye. This is available in two different shades and can be worn alone to brighten the under eye area or used under your concealer to correct darkness, puffiness, etc….! U...

Podcast #671: Begin the New Year by Reflecting on These 3 Life-Changing Questions

As one year ends and another begins, it’s natural to reflect on both the past and the future — who we were, who we are, and who we want to become. My guest today offers three questions that can help make that self-reflection truly fruitful, insightful, and possibly even life-changing. His name is Gregg Krech, he’s executive director of the ToDo Institute, which promotes principles of psychology based on Eastern traditions, and the author of Naikan: Gratitude, Grace, and the Japanese Art of Se...

Total Recall: Paloma Picasso

I first saw an advertisement of the Paloma Picasso perfume in the December 1988 issue of Burda Moden magazine. It was Christmas time, so the edition was generous in the advertising of perfumes – 5 full pages, plus a news note, plus a full-page article "The Fairy World of Fragrances" with photos of the perfumes. But it was Paloma Picasso that struck me. I can't say I had seen a lot of perfume ad... Read full article: Total Recall: Paloma Picasso from Fragrantica Perfumes and Colognes Magazine. ...

The Face Primer I’m Dying to Try!

I’m waiting for the new NYX Marsh Mellow Primer to arrive from a recent Ulta I did but I really want to try is Beauty Bakerie The Butter Hydra Silk Primer. I’m not one for stick primers but this just seems interesting. This is part of a reverse skin prep where you moisturize first, bake, and finally apply setting spray and the primer as the last step. I don’t technically bake so I might just break the rules here and apply it before my makeup. Hopefully it’ll still work that way! I’m not sur...

Hard Cares

What do you care about? Go ahead and rattle off your initial list – the people you know, doing a good job at work, making a positive difference in the world, etc. Then dig deeper. What are your high-risk cares? What do you care about internally but never share because you might be judged for it? What are your unusual cares? Once you go beyond the the easy-breezy cares, what are the harder cares that require more investment or risk? Here are some of mine: I care about the long-t...

My Favorite Fragrances by Aura of Kazakhstan

Some Fragrantica authors have already written about the new niche brand Aura of Kazakhstan, which was born in Almaty city in 2020. Lose weight, save money, cut out booze? I could do that! But give up smoking?

It took me five years just to admit that I wanted to quitFor a long time I kept all of them. And not just at New Years, either. Two stone? Lost. Savings target? Met. Dry January? Easy. I took a healthy packed lunch to work every day. I kept my trainers by the bed for 6am runs. I read War and Peace, then I read it again. In short, if I willed some lifestyle change, it happened – but isn’t that how it works for everyone?Apparently not. Spock-like, I noted how the other humans seemed to sack off th...

Giving birth seemed to spell disaster for my mental health. Were my anxieties unfounded?

I feared isolation, sleep deprivation and an end to the activities that had been keeping me well. I never expected to be filled with such love and wonderI hadn’t expected to have a baby. But when I turned out to be wrong about that, I found myself expecting the whole thing to be a disaster. It wasn’t just that people tend to be rather negative about what early parenthood entails, focusing on the sleepless nights and endless nappy changes. It was also because I had a mental illness that I thought...

Could the Covid pandemic make fashion more sustainable?

From advances in carbon-sequestering sequins to a boom in second-hand shopping, there have been chinks of light in 2020, despite the grim big pictureEven the most ardent fan of elasticated waistbands would have to concede that 2020 has been an ugly year for fast fashion. The industry’s environmental issues are well known. It emits more carbon emissions than all international flight and maritime shipping combined, according to UNEP, the UN Environment Programme. The UK alone sends an estimated £1...
