"It is not licit to impart a blessing on relationships or partnerships, even stable, that involve sexual activity outside of marriage, as is the case of the unions between persons of the same sex."

Said the Vatican, quoted in "Vatican says it will not bless same-sex unions, calling them a 'sin'" (CNN).The statement says that gays and lesbians, as individuals, may receive a blessing if they live according to Church teaching. But blessing same-sex unions, the Vatican said, would send a sign that the Catholic Church approves and encourages "a choice and a way of life that cannot be recognized as objectively ordered to the revealed plans of God."... The Vatican provided the assurance that "the...

Lying

Why do some people lie? One reason is that they don’t trust the receiver. They may be worried about a negative reaction to the truth. That’s an obvious answer but not really the deepest one. Perhaps a better answer is that a person lies to control the receiver. By withholding the truth and sharing something else instead, you can semi-control people’s responses – or so you might assume. So in that sense, lying is a form of manipulation. The deeper trust issue could be framed as a lack of...

Enjoying sex and food is not a sin and church leaders who tell you that are "overzealous," says Pope Francis. From the New York Post: "Pleasure arrives directly from God. Church OK with monk telling gay people to die but it takes issue with him trashing the Pope

A homophobic monk has been excommunicated from Catholic church not because for his vehemently antigay actions, which have resulted in at least one hate crime conviction, but because he trash talked the Pope in a blog post. Damon Jonah Kelly was kicked out of the church by the Bishop of Argyll and the Isles after he wrote a scathing post attacking Pope Francis for “behaving in an ambiguous fashion towards homosexuals” and calling him a “great heretic.” According to The Scottish Sun, Kelly, a sel...

Why Calculating Easter’s Date Is So Complicated

Unlike Christmas, which falls on the same date every year, Easter is what’s called a “moveable feast." That means that Easter falls on a different date from year to year, moving throughout the calendar. In 2019, Easter falls on April 21 — a full three weeks later than Easter in 2018, which fell on April 1.
