How to Exchange Money for Time

This is a common feeling of course. Most of us wish we had more time for the things that really matter to us. As I sat down and thought about this concept, I realized that there a...

Stained glass designer Katayun Saklat’s paintings, with their disconcerting details, give a dark twist to sweet nostalgia At first glance, Katayun Saklat is just another kindly, elderly lady with a thatch of grey hair. The Joy of Being (Slightly) Less Productive

“From what I can see, one of the themes of your blog is productivity.” The speaker was a friend, someone I respect. Her words surprised me. Productivity? No! I want to “help people grow in life and ministry for God’s glory, our joy, and the good of others.” At least that’s what I’d written for the purpose of this website. Productivity seemed like much too small a goal. And yet she was right. I was, at that time, posting a lot about how to make the best use of our time. It’s a fine topic, o...

The 3 Reasons Friendships End

With many relationships, the reasons they end are clear. Two people who are dating realize they’re not compatible in some way and don’t have a future together. A married couple decides they can’t stand living with each other anymore. Business partners split to pursue divergent goals. A boss fires an employee for stealing from the company; or an employee quits when his boss doesn’t give him a desired promotion. Why a friendship ends isn’t always so obvious, however, nor is how one...

Relax Into Being

A few nights ago, I did a 30-minute yoga session before dinner. While lying in Savasana (corpse pose) at the end of it, I reveled in a delightful sense of beingness. This was a good reminder to set aside doingness and to fully relax into just being now and then. When you relax into being, you experience existence without any need for doing. Breathing in stillness feels effortless and automatic. In this state you can enjoy the feeling of connectedness to life without having to think about it. ...

How does gravity bend spacetime?

We typically think of events as happening in space and in time. "In reality, space and time are strongly intertwined things and the union of them is called spacetime," explains Konstantin Batygin. The force that we understand as gravity, according to Batygin, is the result of the spacetime continuum being curved by Earth's gravitational field. Depending on how close you are to the source of gravity, time will pass at different rates.Traveling backward in time is not possible. Traveling forward t...
