Apryl Jones Indirectly Confirms She & Fizz Have Broken Up: “My Focus is on My Children”

Just last month, we saw Apryl Jones take on the entire cast of Love & Hip-Hop Hollywood in defense of her relationship with Fizz. Now, she’s indirectly confirming their split. Apryl stopped by Out Loud with Claudia Jordan on Friday (Jan. 10) for an exclusive interview. She had nothing to but kind words to say about Fizz, whose real name is Dreux Frédéric. But when asked if they were still together, she hesitated and chose her words wisely. “Dreux is a great man. His focus is on Kam, my focus is ...

New KORG kits with tubes: Nu:Tekt headphone amp, valve overdrive

KORG are adding to their inexpensive, easy put-them-together kits with a headphone amp and valve overdrive. Totally tubular. You know how consumer tech mostly works now – pieces of glass and metal and plastic that are about as easy to get into as some alien obelisk or sphere in a sci-fi movie. You have no idea how anything works inside, you didn’t put it together, you can’t modify it, and the company that made it seems to own it. If it breaks, you go to them. Music gear was never this way....

Video: Echosmith, ‘Diamonds’

Echosmith burst out of Chino in 2013, the latest sibling “Cool Kids” to achieve a radio-friendly indie-pop sound as fresh as their teenaged Southern California faces. A sibling quartet at the start, their debut album “Talking Dreams,” eventually a gold record, was truly a family affair, as the tunes were co-penned by their father, songwriter-producer Jeffery David. It took six-plus years (with a bunch of singles and EPs along the way), but today brought the trio’s second full-length, “Lonely ...

Stream: NO WIN, ‘Same’

Danny Nogueiras slashed and smiled (even if some of them were wan smiles) through “Downey,” his 2019 debut album as NO WIN. Named for and inspired by memories of his hometown, the album delivered hook after hook of ’90s-styled indie-rock and power-pop. Was that era really a quarter-century ago? “Downey” made it seem like today. NO WIN returned today with “Same,” their second single since the album release. Following the deliciously crunchy “Blood on Your Tooth,” released in October, “Same” is di...

ARP/KORG reissue the ARP 2600 semi-modular synth – and an ARP documentary to watch, too

As expected, we’re getting a limited-run, faithful recreation of the ARP 2600, one of the best-known semi-modular instruments of all time. It’s 1970 all over again. In a partnership between Japanese manufacturer KORG, who now have the ARP brand name at their disposal, and ARP co-founder David Friend, “ARP Instruments” is back as a maker. There’s now an arpsynth.com website, and the press release actually says ARP on it in big letters rather than KORG. It’s technically speaking stil...
