Big Twins & DirtyDiggs – “No Hesitation” (Video)

Queensbridge’s own Big Twins heads to sunny L.A. to visit his collaborators, production duo DirtyDiggs, in their appropriately grimy new video for “No Hesitation.” The video stems from the emcee’s collaborative EP with Dirty Diggs, whose past work includes credits with Roc Marciano, Westside Gunn, Conway The Machine, and Camp Lo. The project, Queensbridge, features guest appearances from Planet Asia and Godfather Pt. III, among others, and serves as the followup to Twins’ great 2018 album, Gr...

Video: The Black Watch, ‘Brilliant Failures’

What’s one more album between friends? “Brilliant Failures” is the title track to the Black Watch’s 18th long-player and sixth in the past six years (not counting two compilations). Like its predecessors, the album is brought to you by unstoppable-since-1988 singer-songwriter John Andrew Fredrick and his merry band of enablers, on this outing Rob Campanella, Andy Creighton and Scott Campbell. Like its predecessors, it’s snap-crackle-pop indie-rock, alternately jangling and fuzzy, in the vein of ...

A bamboo and aluminum hi-def speaker that sounds as good as it looks

With an aesthetic that melds Japanese and French aesthetics together, the iFi Aurora is a hi-fi speaker that literally looks like it’s levitating off the surface of the table or mantelpiece it’s kept on. The audio unit is clad in a casing made of bamboo, with slatted strips around its periphery, adding contrast while also creating what one would perceive to be the grill for the speaker’s 8 drivers. The speaker is lifted using a pyramid-shaped aluminum frame that helps demarcate Aurora’s contro...

Hear Jan Wagner’s intimate piano electronics, before they enter a planetarium dome

Maybe now is a perfect time for a moment of calm contemplation – premiering Jan Wagner’s “Kapitel 36” on the eve of a new album and a spatial planetarium premiere. Kapitel, out on March 20 on the Quiet Love Label, is “autobiographical” ambient music. These are spontaneous, personal sketches that began as piano improvisations, but have sometimes had those piano imprints removed – a kind of lost wax approach to composition, piano molds for electronic textures. “Kapitel 36” is an especi...
