Judge Overturns Verdict That Ruled Katy Perry Stole Music From Christian Rapper Marcus Gray

Katy Perry has reason to make a joyful noise at the moment. A judge has overturned a jury’s verdict that found the singer stole music from a Christian rap artist. U.S District Judge Christina Snyder overturned the verdict earlier this week, citing that the disputed sections of Perry’s “Dark Horse” and Marcus Gray’s “Joyful Noise” were not distinctive enough to be protected by copyright. Snyder wrote: “It is undisputed in this case, even viewing the evidence in the light most favorable to plainti...

It’s not been a great 2020 for Oprah so far. And it doesn’t seem to be getting any better with the latest mess she’s been dragged into. According to the rumor, Oprah’s estate in Boca Raton, Florida was raided by police and led to the 66-year-old’s arrest for sex trafficking. The rumor was so outrageous and ga...

Philippa Lowthorpe's 'Misbehaviour' (Film Flash)

Linda Levitt: I usually bristle at films that boldly claim to be "based on a true story" because creative intervention results in audiences new to a story that ultimately confuses fact and fiction. Misbehaviour retells a bold tale of female empowerment in an expected place: the beauty pageant. There's definitely some 1970s style conscious-raising underway here, and it looks like a delightful journey to follow along with the conspiracy to overthrow the patriarchy. [8/10] J. R. Kinnard: We...

10 Deep Tracks from Interpol's Early Discography

When you really think about the group's music, there's a lot about Interpol not to like. Be it the consistent post-punk cribbing or the monotonous delivery of its albums, all of which are cut from the same cloth, it's easy to dismiss its members as hipsters of the highest order. (I have one friend who cringes at the first note that singer Paul Banks utters.) Interpol can be labeled as "the" quintessential New York indie band, the one that exploded on the scene with its debut, Turn on the Bri...
