girl in red – “Stay” (The Kid Laroi & Justin Bieber Cover)

The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber’s “Stay” just spent seven straight weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, which means that it has been around for quite a while. Long enough, anyway, to have some artists wanting to do covers of it. Enter Marie Ulven, better known as girl in red, who released her debut full-length if i could make it go quiet earlier this year. Ulven covered “Stay” for the latest edition of the Spotify Singles series. “I’m about to leave someone that I don’t want to leave so I’m lis...

Her second solo album, Zorked, was recorded after Shapiro moved from Seattle to Los Angeles in March 2020 and was quickly forced into isolation; her roommate, Jay Som’s Melina Duterte, agreed to co-produce the record. Today, following lead single “Come With Me,” we get to hear the heavier shoegaze and drone metal-inspired “Death (XIII).” As Shapiro explains:

Francis Of Delirium – “Come Out And Play”

Earlier this year, Francis Of Delirium impressed us with their sophomore EP, Wading. Led by the young Luxembourg-based musician Jana Bahrich, that EP had some fearsomely high-drama rock songs that combined a bunch of different guitar genres into a blender. Bahrich has focused in on shoegaze for her next release, a new track called “Come Out And Play” that’s searing and fuzzy and and maudlin.

Illuminati Hotties – “Threatening Each Other Re: Capitalism”

After Illuminati Hotties’ debut album Kiss Yr Fremenies became a word-of-mouth indie sensation, project mastermind Sarah Tudzin quickly wrote and recorded a follow-up with plans to release it in 2020. When the band’s label Tiny Engines became the center of a scandal regarding royalty payments, Tudzin’s plans changed. Instead of handing over LP2 to the label, she fulfilled her two-album Tiny Engines contract with last year’s wild “mixtape” Free I.H.: This Is Not The One You’ve Been Waiting For. N...
