Live Performers Now Streaming Shows, from their Homes to Yours: Neil Young, Coldplay, Broadway Stars, Metropolitan Operas & More

You've always read books in the comfort of your own home. Though it may not be the full cinematic experience, you can also watch films there, in a pinch. Hugo Valentine ‘I’m Hoping For Something Real To Find’

You can’t listen to singer-songwriter Hugo Valentine without being reminded of the classics like Elton John and Coldplay – when melodies and lyrics ruled, not topline and beats. Only a few artists on the planet can modernize a classic sound while creating a colorful character and I think the British singer did a decent job. He’s released 4 songs and my favorites are All I Want and Memories (near 200k streams).  He picked up tastemakers support from the likes EarMilk and Essentially Pop. Give i...

‘I Knew Inevitably It Would Betray You.’ James Taylor on Avoiding the Trap of Celebrity

It’s a dreary afternoon, so James Taylor is building us a fire. First he drags a bucket of kindling into the living room of his sprawling western Massachusetts house. Then he kneels on the rug in front of the hearth and begins, with deliberate precision, to chop up a few choice pieces of wood with a hatchet. Once the fire is crackling, he slowly unfolds himself into a standing position–all six-plus feet of him, still lanky and imposing at 71–and settles into a plush armchair. It’s the kind ...

Almost famous: Bullied young Irvine rocker and his band get breaks that could launch them to stardom

On a recent Tuesday, in the middle of science class at Irvine High, a student interrupted an otherwise normal lesson by shouting a triumphant profanity. “Holy (expletive),” the kid said. He had received a text message from his dad that made him leap from his desk and jump around the classroom in celebration. His teacher, obviously stunned, confronted the disruptor. A trip to detention was about to be handed out. Here’s what was going on: A rock ‘n’ roll moment was about to happen. “They’re going...
