Ghostface Killah & RZA – “On That Sht Again”

Of Mics And Men, Showtime's new four-part documentary about the history of the Wu-Tang Clan, is absolutely magical television, and it effectively makes the totally accurate case that the Wu-Tang Clan's ascent is one of the great miracles in the history of American popular music. The 5 Best Videos Of The Week

This week, Spike Jonze, arguably the greatest music-video director of all time, directed Karen O and Danger Mouse's Colbert performance. This sounds like an absurd and pretentious thing to do, and it probably is exactly that. But Jonze (and everyone else involved) made something vivid and kinetic and memorable out of it. Mostly, … More »

Listen Up

Rowdy rap, haunting electro-pop and more new tunes this week Jessie Ware: Adore You Mellow and a little haunting, Jessie Ware‘s new song “Adore You” (co-written and produced by Metronomy’s Joseph Mount) is a sublime return to the London-based singer/songwriter’s electronic roots. The house-pop track is airy and delicate, and Ware’s vocals are perfectly pared back to match. Part ballad, part disco tune, this is …

Album Stream: Czarface & Ghostface Killah ‘Czarface Meets Ghostface’

After joining forces with MF DOOM on last year’s Czarface Meets Metal Face, Czarface — the supergroup consisting of Inspectah Deck and 7L & Esoteric — forge an alliance with another legendary MC, Ghostface Killah, on their latest album, Czarface Meets Ghostface Killah. It’s a collaboration of comic book proportions as Rebel INS, Tony Starks and Esoteric sharpen their lyrical swords over 7L’s face-melting boom bap beats. CZARFACE & Ghostface Killah – “CZARFACE Meets Ghostface” (Album Review)

This is the highly anticipated collab album between East Coast supergroup CZARFACE & the legendary Ghostface Killah. They first teamed up on the banger “Savagely Attack” off of CZARFACE’s self-titled debut back in 2013 but now almost a year after the trio’s collab album with MF DOOM titled CZARFACE Meets Metal Face, they’re following it up by doing a collab album with Tony Starks himself. After the “Back at the Ringside” intro, the first song “Face Off” sees CZAR & Ghost really suiting the t...

Czarface + Ghostface Killah: Mongolian Beef

Back in 2013, Wu-Tang Clan’s Inspectah Deck joined forces with 7L and Esoteric to form Czarface, a supergroup of undeniable ferociousness. Czarface has just dropped “Mongolian Beef,” from their forthcoming album Czarface Meets Ghostface—the trio’s collaboration with Wu-Tang’s Ghostface Killah. With those details out of the way, listeners are left with a rowdy track that puts everyone’s talents to rapid-fire use. Paired with Shawn Johnson’s collage-like video, it’s …

Czarface x Ghostface Killah – “Mongolian Beef” Video

For the past few years, Czarface have been on a mission to bring fantastically raw and guttural East Coast underground rap back into your life. The trio is already a bit of a supergroup, uniting Boston punchline lifers 7L & Esoteric with longtime Wu-Tang Clan representer Inspectah Deck. And lately, they've been on a collaborative … More »

The 5 Best Videos Of The Week

It has been almost a month since I published one of these. Fortunately, people pretty much stop putting out music videos in December. That entire artform just took a four-week nap. But there were exceptions. A few people were nice enough to come out with good videos during the long holiday break. I salute those … More »

New Video: Teyana Taylor Feat. Wu-Tang Clan “Gonna Love Me (Remix)”

It’s a classic New York hood love story in the music video for Teyana Taylor’s “Gonna Love Me” remix. Directed by Taylor herself, the visual is filmed in the Harlem singer’s hometown where she draws inspiration from her favorite R&B videos from the 90s. Frustrated with the drama back home with Ghostface Killah, the G.O.O.D. Music songstress goes out for a stroll before ending up at house party. Things get testy as a dancing Teyana spots Ghostface flirting with another chick and soon after a b...

Open Mike Eagle & Milo’s Independent Journies

It's such an oddly specific and low-stakes flex: "I’ve been on every podcast that I listen to." It's also, presumably, an entirely true statement. If you've ever heard Open Mike Eagle on a podcast, you already know that he's an ideal podcast guest: funny, gregarious, open-hearted, interested, informed enough to speak with some credibility on … More »
