Daddy’s Hangout Week 8 2021 NFL Predictions

Welcome to Week 8 of the 2021 NFL season as a lot of teams are separating from others. My record was 4-2 last week, which brings my overall mark to 38-22. My winning percentage went up a little from 63 to 63.3%. The Arizona Cardinals remain undefeated after a dominating performance against the Houston Texans. Kyler Murray connected with his new target, Zach Ertz on a 47-yard TD pass. Cincinnati made a statement as they went to Baltimore and blew out the Ravens. Tampa Bay manhandled the Chicago B...

Travis Scott’s Astroworld Lineup Announces Tame Impala, Young Thug, Toro Y Moi, & More

Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival was announced back in May, and tickets have been basically sold-out since they went on sale, even though no lineup had been announced. The festival is taking place next weekend at NRG Park in Houston on November 5 and November 6, and today, Scott has revealed who will be performing. Naturally, Scott himself is one of the headliners. The lineup also includes Tame Impala, Young Thug, Toro Y Moi, SZA, Chief Keef, Bad Bunny, Master P, Earth Wind & Fire, Baby Keem, ...

Album Of The Week: Maxo Kream Weight Of The World

On “Mama’s Purse,” one of the last songs on his new album Weight Of The World, the Houston rapper Maxo Kream starts out flossy. He doesn’t remain that way for long. The “Mama’s Purse” beat is lush and warm and opulent; it’s the kind of track that plenty of rappers would use to brag about material things. But Maxo’s approach is a fake-out. As the track begins, Maxo uses the cadence from Three 6 Mafia’s 2006 hit “Poppin’ My Collar”: “Ever since I can remember, I been poppin’ my collar/ Jordans, sp...

Fat Tony – “Ain’t For Me”

Houston rapper Fat Tony has a long history of making sharp and thoughtful music, and he remains an underrated force. Last year, Tony released his narrative-heavy album Exotica. Today, while gearing up for a tour with recent Polaris Prize winner Cadence Weapon, Tony has followed that album with a new single called “Ain’t For Me.”

Daddy’s Hangout 2021 Week 3 NFL Predictions

Welcome to Week 3 of the 2021 NFL season in what has been an exciting couple of weeks. My record from a week ago was 8-4, which pushed my overall mark to 13-8. My winning percentage heading into Week 3 is 61.9% which means I’m below my targeted mark. The Los Angeles Rams continue to impress as they outlasted the Colts on the road. Buffalo rebounded nicely in Miami as they blanked the Dolphins. The Las Vegas Raiders are looking like real contenders early on after beating the Steelers on the road....

Scarface Got A New Kidney From His Son

Last year, the pioneering Houston rapper Scarface became one of the first celebrities to go public about his battle with COVID-19. In interviews last year, Scarface said that he felt like he was going to die while in the hospital, and he also said that his fight wasn’t over. In an Instagram Live conversation, Scarface told his old friend Ludacris last March, “I’m not out the woods yet. My kidneys failing. I’m going to have to get a transplant, and then go on dialysis or whatever.” By October, Sc...

Daddy’s Hangout 2021 Week 2 NFL Predictions

Welcome to 2021 Week 2 of the NFL season as things kicked off with a bang. Last week was bad, but it could have been much worse with my predictions. My record was 5-4, which falls way short on my quest to have at least a 70% winning percentage. The big shockers on Sunday had to be the Saints dominate the Packers for starters. The other one saw the Arizona Cardinals decimate the Tennessee Titans. On Monday, we saw one of, if not the best game when the Raiders beat the Ravens in OT. We will kick...

Maxo Kream & Tyler, The Creator – “Big Persona”

In the past few years, it looked like Tyler, The Creator was moving on from rap, embracing strange new space-funk mutations. But on his recent album Call Me If You Get Lost, Tyler was back on his rap shit — so much so that he brought in DJ Drama to yell all over the record. Today, we learn that Tyler is still very much on his rap shit, and he’s got a new collaboration with the great Houston hard-rock storyteller Maxo Kream.

Jason Isbell Drops Out Of Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion Over Vaccination Policy

Jason Isbell has been extremely clear about his COVID concert policy: To see any of his shows, you’ll need to provide proof that you’re either fully vaccinated or have tested negative for the virus within the past three days. When a venue in Houston refused to comply with that policy last week, Isbell just cancelled his show there. And now, he’s announced that he’s dropped out of the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion in Tennessee — which he was set to headline — after the festival announced that it...

Jason Isbell Cancels Houston Show Because Venue Won’t Comply With Vaccine Policy

Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit are requiring proof that you’re fully vaccinated against COVID-19, or have tested negative for the virus within the past three days, in order to enter their current run of concerts. The policy has caused friction with at least one other artist, Marc Broussard, and landed Isbell on MSNBC to explain his position. (“I’m all for freedom, but if you’re dead, you don’t have any freedoms at all.”) Now Isbell has cancelled Wednesday’s scheduled show with Lucinda Williams at C...

Jazz take exception to Clippers’ path to playoffs

SALT LAKE CITY — Remember how the Clippers backpedaled into the No. 4 playoff seed with regular-season-closing losses to Houston and Oklahoma City, the teams at the bottom of the Western Conference standings? Utah Jazz coach Quin Snyder does. He gave the public a glimpse at the Jazz’s bulletin board on Tuesday morning, when he told reporters: “Obviously, we’re a matchup that the Clippers felt like was an advantageous matchup for them.” At the time, Clippers coach Tyronn Lue said it was a matter ...

‘This sounds like a human synthesiser’: the evolution of rap, one verse at a time

A rap tutor and a language expert dissect the various eras of music’s ever-shifting genre, from Beastie Boys to Giggs and Nicki MinajHe sound like a mosquito if it had access to a studio!”; “I played 645AR at your crib and all the mice in your walls started dancing”; “He sound like Future’s bed bugs”: not your standard rap fan comments, but the Bronx via Atlanta rapper-singer 645AR is … innovative. After the darkness that was the year 2020, AmirSaysNothing is here to bring the world “Endless Brightside“. AmirSaysNothing ’s sophomore album showcases his witty authenticity and organic rise through the music scene. His vivacious personality has led him to connect with industry heavyweights as he’s been on the independent artist grind, meshing his influences of New York boom-bap, Houston’s chopped and screwed music and 1970s funk. Pittsburgh legend Big Jerm (who worked closely with M...

Houston Symphony’s Music Director, Stranded In Europe By Pandemic, Misses Last Two Weeks Of Season

Andres Orozco-Estrada hasn’t been back to Texas to conduct his orchestra for a year, but he had been planning to return for concerts May 7-9 and May 14-16 to close his next-to-last season in Houston. (He’ll step down in the summer of 2022.) But the U.S. government’s National Interest Exemption on pandemic travel restrictions for certain artists expired in early March, exceptions are no longer being considered, and Orozco-Estrada learned at the last minute that he wouldn’t be allowed to enter th...

Markieff Morris has been ‘unsung hero’ as Lakers battle without injured stars

No less a basketball pundit than ESPN’s Zach Lowe offered a mea culpa on Friday in his weekly column of ten NBA observations. The sentiment could not have been more direct. “Boy was I wrong about Markieff Morris”. For those paying attention during the Lakers’ 7-8 stretch with neither LeBron James or Anthony Davis, it’s been clear that Morris has been one of the most consistent, most steadying presences on the team on both ends. In the last 15 games, he’s been the team’s fifth-leading scorer (11....

Daddy’s Hangout 2021 Final Four Predictions

We are now down to the Final Four of March Madness. Before going on, the legendary Roy Williams announced his retirement from coaching college basketball. Williams is one of the all-time great coaches in the game of college basketball. Between Kansas and North Carolina, he coached for 33 years after being an assistant for the Tar Heels. Now onto the Final Four as we will see the Baylor Bears battle the Houston Cougars. In the other game, we will see Gonzaga take on the surprising UCLA Bruins t...

Daddy’s Hangout 2021 NCAA Elite 8 Predictions

The wild ride of March Madness continued into the Sweet 16. My Sweet 16 picks garnered a 5-3 record, which isn’t bad at all seeing how this tournament has gone. Michigan beat Florida State to show why they are a legit contender to cut down the nets in the end. In the game of the weekend, UCLA pulled off the upset over Alabama in OT. My last defeat came when Houston manhandled Syracuse to advance to the Elite 8. Who will advance to the Final Four? Let’s see who leaves the Elite 8 victorious? E...

Daddy’s Hangout 2021 NCAA Sweet 16 Predictions

The first two round the March Madness was as crazy as we have ever seen. We have a number of Cinderella teams as we enter the second weekend of the tournament. Gonzaga and Baylor are still the favorites to meet in the championship game. With all the madness that has taken place in March, could we see someone else? Let’s take a look and see who I think will advance to the Final Four. East Region   #1 Michigan vs. #4 Florida State We have the only matchup that features two teams that were fa...

Deshaun Watson Facing Three Lawsuits Accusing Him of Sexual Assault During Massages

Deshaun Watson is reportedly facing not just one, not just two, but THREE separate civil lawsuits from women accusing him of sexually assaulting them during massages. Via Sports Illustrated: After announcing the first lawsuit on Tuesday, Houston attorney Tony Buzbee posted on social media about a second suit on Wednesday and later that evening, Buzbee announced in a post that a third lawsuit—this one “the most egregious” to date—had been filed as well.
