Daddy’s Hangout 2021 Week 2 NFL Predictions

Welcome to 2021 Week 2 of the NFL season as things kicked off with a bang. Last week was bad, but it could have been much worse with my predictions. My record was 5-4, which falls way short on my quest to have at least a 70% winning percentage. The big shockers on Sunday had to be the Saints dominate the Packers for starters. The other one saw the Arizona Cardinals decimate the Tennessee Titans. On Monday, we saw one of, if not the best game when the Raiders beat the Ravens in OT. We will kick...

Chuck D Responds To Flavor Flav’s Version Of Public Enemy Reunion Stalemate

Last year, before releasing What You Gonna Do When The Grid Goes Down, their guest-heavy return to Def Jam Records, the legendary rap rabble-rousers Public Enemy went through a weird public spat that might have been fake. After Public Enemy were announced to perform a Bernie Sanders rally in Los Angeles, longtime hypeman (and one-time reality TV celebrity) Flavor Flav loudly objected to the gig — which turned out to feature Chuck D’s PE offshoot Public Enemy Radio — on the grounds that he did no...

My Morning Jacket – “Love Love Love”

Next month, My Morning Jacket will return with a new self-titled LP, and it’ll be their first new studio album since they released The Waterfall in 2015. Frontman Jim James produced and engineered the album, and the band knocked it out in two recording sessions in Los Angeles. The band already shared the early track “Regularly Scheduled Programming,” and now they’ve also shared the new single “Love Love Love.”

The Conductors Climbing The Dudamel Fellows Ladder

“A striking aspect of the former fellows, however, is how little they are like Dudamel — or each other. … The main thing these former fellows may take home from L.A. is indoctrination” – in programming new music. – Los Angeles Times

Thousands of music and craft beer fans drank and lived it up at the annual Brew Ska Ska

“How many people here were heavy on the Brew and light on the Ska Ska,” Less Than Jake vocalist-guitarist Roger Lima asked the crowd as his band closed out the 11th edition of the Brew Ha Ha craft beer and music fest (affectionately renamed Brew Ska Ska for its ska-infused lineup) at Oak Canyon Park in Silverado on Saturday. The patrons who stayed until dark were a dedicated bunch — they had shown up in the early afternoon for the four hours of craft beer tastings from dozens of breweries and re...

Daddy’s Hangout 2021 Week 1 NFL Predictions

The time has come and we finally have football back again. As we all know, Tampa Bay defeated Kansas City to win Super Bowl LV. This year, both teams are considered favorites to win their respective conferences. Tampa Bay starts the season out on a Thursday night at home against the Dallas Cowboys. Kansas City will begin the season at home against a team they could see in the playoffs in the Cleveland Browns. Welcome to Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season. As always, my goal is to finish with winnin...

Julia Shapiro – “Death (XIII)”

Chastity Belt’s Julia Shapiro has a new LP on the way. Her second solo album, Zorked, was recorded after Shapiro moved from Seattle to Los Angeles in March 2020 and was quickly forced into isolation; her roommate, Jay Som’s Melina Duterte, agreed to co-produce the record. Today, following lead single “Come With Me,” we get to hear the heavier shoegaze and drone metal-inspired “Death (XIII).” As Shapiro explains:

Watch Phoebe Bridgers Cover Bo Burnham At Tour Opener

Bo Burnham’s “That Funny Feeling” — from his comedy special Inside and its accompanying album Inside (The Songs), which recently hit the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 and is getting a physical release in December — already pretty much sounded like a Phoebe Bridgers song. Burnham and Bridgers performed it together at the Largo in Los Angeles last month (where no video was allowed). And last night, Bridgers covered “That Funny Feeling” by herself as the encore for her tour kickoff in Chesterfield, M...

Kamasi Washington – “My Friend Of Misery” (Metallica Cover)

Last month, young Los Angeles jazz legend Kamasi Washington headlined the Hollywood Bowl, and his set featured a very cool surprise. Metallica’s Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo joined Washington and his band onstage, and they helped out on a cover of Metallica’s 1991 deep cut “My Friend Of Misery.” This, of course, is Washington’s contribution to the extremely strange new project The Metallica Blacklist, in which artists like Phoebe Bridgers and Weezer and Chris Stapleton cover tracks from Meta...

Dave Grohl’s Archnemesis, 11-Year-Old Drummer Nandi Bushell, Finally Joins Foo Fighters In Concert

Dave Grohl has finally performed live with his nemesis, 11-year-old British drummer Nandi Bushell. Bushell, who was gifted a guitar by Tom Morello after going viral for covering Rage Against The Machine’s “Guerrilla Radio,” challenged Grohl to a drum battle last year — and won. He wrote a theme song for her and she wrote a song for him. And last night, at Foo Fighters’ concert at the Forum in Los Angeles, Grohl invited her to the stage to help close their set out with a performance of “Everlong....

Drakeo The Ruler Arrested On Gun Charge

Last year, after spending years in jail awaiting trial on various charges, the influential Los Angeles underground rapper Drakeo The Ruler accepted a plea deal and walked free. The whole saga of Drakeo’s stint in jail is long and byzantine, and it involves Drakeo being kept incarcerated even after he was acquitted of murder. Now, it looks like Drakeo is facing new charges under suspicious circumstances.

Songwriter Diane Warren talks first-ever album made with Celine Dion, John Legend and Darius Rucker

Diane Warren is one of the most prolific and successful songwriters in music, though her name isn’t as widely known as the artists for whom she’s written nine No. 1 hits or the movies for which her songs have earned a dozen Oscar nominations. So why now, at 64, did she make “The Cave Sessions Vol. 1,” and release her first-ever album? In a weird way, John Legend is responsible. Songwriter Diane Warren has written nine songs that hit No. 1 on the charts. She has been nominated 12 times for th...

Hana Vu – “Everybody’s Birthday”

After releasing a couple of EPs over the last few years, the Los Angeles musician Hana Vu is ready to release her debut album. We got a preview of it last month with “Maker” and today she’s officially announcing it. It’s called Public Storage and it’ll be out in November. The new single she’s sharing today, “Everybody’s Birthday,” is blown-out and crunchy and theatrical, with a thudding chorus: “Everybody’s crying in the hallway/ I guess it must be everybody’s birthday/ All the time.” “It’s abou...

Goo Goo Dolls talk 35th anniversary and returning to Pacific Amphitheatre

In 2020, rock band Goo Goo Dolls were primed to hit the road in support of its latest album, “Miracle Pill,” and to celebrate both the 25th anniversary of its breakthrough album “A Boy Named Goo” and its 35th anniversary as a band. Though the pandemic sidelined all of those plans, vocalist-guitarist John Rzeznik is happy to report that in spite of postponing its national tour and other challenges, Goo Goo Dolls still found ways to connect with its fanbase, including several virtual performances ...

Jamie Spears Agrees To Step Down As Britney Spears’ Conservator: Report

Britney Spears’ father, James “Jamie” Spears, has agreed to step down as head of her conservatorship, TMZ reports. Jamie has overseen the conservatorship — a legal arrangement that manages both Britney’s personal and professional life — since a Los Angeles court put it in place in 2008 in the wake of her public mental breakdown. In recent years, an informal coalition known as the #FreeBritney movement has campaigned for the end of the conservatorship. In June, Britney argued passionately in cour...
