Clippers, down 2-0 to the Utah Jazz, have issues on both ends

SALT LAKE CITY — The last time the Clippers fell behind 2-0 in a playoff series, back on May 25, they made it a point to express their unwavering confidence. Reggie Jackson wore a T-shirt adorned with a happy face to his virtual postgame news conference and signed off that night by saying: “No worries. Remember, no worries!” Clippers Coach Tyronn Lue also was unequivocally calm, shrugging off the Clippers’ first two losses at Staples Center: “I am not worried about it,” he said. “You gotta win f...

Ivica Zubac back in Clippers’ starting lineup for Game 2 against Jazz

SALT LAKE CITY — Nineteen minutes, 21 minutes, 11 minutes. Eight, 20, five. Three, 20 … TBD. Ivica Zubac’s minutes have fluctuated wildly so far this postseason, and looking ahead Wednesday to Game 2 against the Utah Jazz, the 7-foot Croatian center reiterated that he was game for whatever Coach Tyronn Lue needed. Lue needed him back on the floor at tip-off, lining up immediately with three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert. Down 1-0 in their Western Conference semifinal series a...

Clippers, Jazz are out to right last postseason’s wrongs

The second-round Western Conference playoff pairing that tips off Tuesday at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City will feature the top-seeded Jazz, the fourth-seeded Clippers and the specter of the 2020 Denver Nuggets. Both the Clippers and Jazz were on the wrong side of history in the Florida bubble, both victims of a Denver team that became the first in NBA history to come all the way back from a 3-1 deficit in consecutive playoff series – starting in the first round against Utah and then in the con...

Atlanta Hawks 2020 Free Agency Spending Spree Thoughts

The Atlanta Hawks were arguably the most aggressive team when it came to free agency. With Trae Young being one of the up-and-coming stars in the league, Atlanta needed to make some moves. If you follow Trae on any of his social media pages, you know he wants to win. Next year, the Hawks can offer Young his max deal, but they must decide what to do with John Collins. Collins has stated he wants a max deal, but it seems like the Hawks aren’t thinking about it. Atlanta spent a lot of money and o...

2020 NBA Playoffs First Round Predictions

2020 has definitely been one for the ages with everything that’s happened. In March, the world changed because of the coronavirus and sports disappeared. Fortunately, it returned and the NBA was played in a bubble without fans in the stands. Since the NBA restart, we have seen some amazing performances. Damian Lillard, Michael Porter Jr. and Devin Booker are just a few of the guys who have had amazing performances. The Suns were the only team to go undefeated and now their future look bright as...

#BlackMambaForever: Remembering a Legend After a Tragic Death

On April 13th of 2016, the Los Angeles Laker Kobe Bryant stepped to the free-throw line in the Staples Center. They held a one-point lead over the Utah Jazz with just under fifteen seconds left in regulation. The arena was filled with a deafening cheer of “MVP! MVP! MVP!” The Black Mamba arrived at the line, and he proceeded to sink both free throws, solidifying the Lakers’ victory and scoring his fifty-ninth and sixtieth point of the night consecutively. It was the last time he’d play in an NBA...

Trail Mix – November 2019

Tucked away in the far western corner of Kentucky, right against the banks of the Ohio River, is the uniquely named town of Monkey’s Paw. Never heard of it? Not surprising. But I can guarantee that, very soon, you will know about Kelsey Weldon, the town’s favorite daughter. Weldon is rapdidy making her mark on the Americana world, having become the first artist in over a decade signed to fellow legendary musician – and fellow Kentuckian – John Prine’s label, Oh Boy Records. Atlanta Hawks Win Opener On Road Against Dallas

Dennis Schroder’s first game as the front man for the Atlanta Hawks just happened to be the night that countryman Dirk Nowitzki joined Kobe Bryant as the only players to reach 20 seasons with the same team. The young guard showed Germany’s aging icon that maybe he can be the face of a franchise as well. Schroder scored 28 points, fellow Euro standout Marco Belinelli added 20 in his first game for Atlanta and the rebuilding Hawks spoiled rookie Dennis Smith Jr.’s solid Dallas debut, beating the...

Apple’s relationship with pro music needs some mending

What happens when a key relationship in music technology turns a bit sour? There’s no mistaking the music world’s preference for Apple products. But there are some specific, specific causes for concern in the way Apple is handling its desktop operating system and its relationship with pro musicians. First, let me be clear. I’ve covered Apple and music for a long time. I’ve met some of the people handling these products; some of them I’ve known fairly well in a professional capacity. I have treme...
