How The Wrecking Crew Secretly Recorded Some of the Biggest Hits of the 1960s & 70s

The top flight crew of L.A. studio musicians known as The Wrecking Crew acquired their name, legend has it, because they “were wrecking the business for everyone else,” writes Janet Maslin at The New York Times, meaning older session players who couldn’t keep up. Drummers like Hal Blaine (“who justifiably calls himself ’10 of Your Favorite Drummers’ on his Web site”) and guitarists like Tommy Tedesco and Carol Kaye could play anything put in front of them perfectly, in one take, with th...

Drive-in concerts became a thing in 2020: Here’s how they’ll evolve in 2021

Southern California went a solid three months without live, in-person concerts in 2020. It seems impossible given that for decades there were plenty of entertainment options on any single night at dozens of venues, big and small, from San Diego to Ventura. However, the unprecedented global pandemic sideswiped the live events industry, and clubs, bars, amphitheaters, concert halls, arenas, stadiums and festival grounds across the country started going dark in mid-March in an effort to stop the sp...

Benny Sings – “Rolled Up” (Feat. Mac DeMarco)

Dutch producer and singer-songwriter Benny Sings linked up with Stones Throw Records for last year's City Pop, which, despite its name, was not in fact a collection of Japanese pop from the 1980s. Instead, the album found Benny cranking out smooth retro soft-rock jams that remind me of everything from Andy Shauf to Phoenix to … More »

Eddie Van Halen, an appreciation: The musician remade the guitar and made it the star

Eddie Van Halen, the Pasadena kid who ruled the late ’70s and ’80s as the era’s premier guitar god, was that rare musician whose signature style and sound you knew the instant you heard it. And like a rock ‘n’ roll god, Van Halen, who died on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 65, and his music won’t ever really die, not as long as the work he unleashed on stage and in the studio lives on. Related: Eddie Van Halen, guitarist and co-founder of Van Halen, dead at 65 Most of his greatest works were made with Van ...

ReachingNOVA & Teemonee are 2 rappers hailing from New York that’ve been active in the underground scene for a while now & this is their collaborative EP.
