Suhr Guitar Talk :: RE: Strings, Springs, and Other Things

Author: HiOctane Posted: Fri Apr 03, 2020 6:05 pm (GMT -7) Topic Replies: 2 I have always been partial to Dean Markley strings - particularly the Blue Steel. That said, I have to agree with Ireese that D'Addario strings are fairly priced, consistent and durable, so I have been using them more lately. I don't know if this is still the case, but I believe they were the standard on Suhr guitars at one time. Same with me on the trem setup as well - three springs straight. _________________GM, ...

Suhr Guitar Talk :: RE: Anybody ever weighed the SSCII (silent single coil system)?

Author: Suhr Posted: Thu Apr 02, 2020 8:40 am (GMT -7) Topic Replies: 6 diogoguitar wrote: interesting. Then why most Suhrs are heavier than Fenders? They aren't, the SSC is a little more than 1/4 lb 4.8oz. Plus we don't use zinc blocks, we use full sized steel blocks because they simply sound better but they add a little weight. The worst sounding Fender at Fender I made as a Master builder was one of the lightest guitars I ever made.

Suhr Guitar Talk :: Increased string gauge question

Author: GitarDude Subject: Increased string gauge question Posted: Sun Mar 29, 2020 8:17 am (GMT -7) Topic Replies: 0 So my Suhr modern was fitted beautifully for 46-10 gauge but I’m interested in tinkering and trying slightly larger gauges on the high strings. My question boils down to, how much wiggle room do the nut slots provide for increasing the gauge with out dealing with any files and such?.. also if anyone experiments with gauges id love to hear ur feelings, thanks!

I would like to lower the action just a little. There is not included any information on the bridge. Is there a “how-to” anywhere thru Suhr or elsewhere online? I haven’t been able to find anything, so far. I’m not very technical, but I can set intonation. My only bridge ex...

Suhr Guitar Talk :: RE: Are my fret buzz standards too high??

Author: AlexClou Posted: Tue Mar 03, 2020 12:16 pm (GMT -7) Topic Replies: 4 I wouldn't say that I pick much softer in that sense, it's more like I put the pick way less deep in between the strings, while the initial punch stays almost the same. My Tele, I have to pick it more 'brutal'. I thinks it's really about the technique and whether one is used to a high end instrument, I definitely wasn't. The neck on mine took like 2 months to settle in, I bought it just when it switched from autumn...

But there's one thing that is driving me crazy...it's FRET BUZZ, particularly on the EAD strings. Using the measurements provided by Suhr support, I've set it up very close to factory spec. Suhr Guitar Talk :: RE: Is Suhr moving away from roasted necks?

Author: Drew7 Posted: Fri Feb 21, 2020 11:10 am (GMT -7) Topic Replies: 2 First I've heard of this as well - if anything I've seen MORE roasted maple in use in the last few years, for it's far greater stability. I've had a Suhr Modern 7 with a roasted Birdseye neck since mid-2013, and have had zero issues with the neck. _________________"They can kill you, but the legalities of eating you are a little dicier." - David Foster Wallace

Suhr Guitar Talk :: RE: Is Suhr moving away from roasted necks?

Author: ATLMikeyD Posted: Fri Feb 21, 2020 8:35 am (GMT -7) Topic Replies: 2 I thought that roasted necks were superior due to having very little moisture and less tendency to react to atmospheric changes compared to non-roasted wood. I've not heard anyone complain about them or rumors of discontinuation from any manufacturer. I imagine that the wood is roasted before receipt at a manufacturer, then cut to spec. Perhaps the demand, demonstrated market behavior due to cost impact to custo...

Author: ATLMikeyD Posted: Wed Feb 19, 2020 2:35 pm (GMT -7) Topic Replies: 14 I think I misinterpreted the OP as having professional impacts due to lack of an instrument as well. To that I would say go get MIM Fender and wear it out until the custom ordered/spec'd Suhr comes in.
