Preview Another New War On Drugs Song “Victim”

The War On Drugs’ long-awaited new album I Don’t Live Here Anymore is arriving in just a couple of weeks. We’ve heard two singles so far, “Living Proof” and the title track, both of which we named one of the best songs of the week when they came out. Today, Adam Granduciel and company have taken to social media to preview another new song, “Victim,” which the band debuted a rough mix of on Instagram Live last year. Check it out below.

The War On Drugs – “I Don’t Live Here Anymore” (Feat. Lucius)

Back in July, the War On Drugs finally announced their new album, I Don’t Live Here Anymore, with lead single “Living Proof.” Since then, their breakthrough album Slave Ambient turned 10 and they played a lovely in-studio rendition of “Living Proof” on Colbert.

Watch The War On Drugs Play A Lovely Live-In-Studio “Living Proof” On Colbert

It’s been more than four years since the War On Drugs released A Deeper Understanding, their last album, but they’re finally getting ready to make their grand return. Next month, the War On Drugs will release their new album I Don’t Live Here Anymore. Thus far, they’ve only shared one song, the lost and ruminative “Living Proof.” Last night, TWOD were the musical guests on the newly mustachioed Stephen Colbert’s Late Show, and they played a very pretty live-in-studio version of “Living Proof.” ...

Slave Ambient Turns 10

In 2011, the War On Drugs were just getting started. Technically, the band had already been around for over half a decade, and in 2008 they’d released a well-liked debut called Wagonwheel Blues, an album that combined classic rock-isms with a hissing, ramshackle 21st century psychedelia. Back then, Kurt Vile was in the band, and Adam Granduciel wasn’t yet quite known as the visionary architect of the Drugs. Even by the time Vile had departed and Slave Ambient came out, Granduciel’s work lived in...

The War On Drugs Share A Live Track And Announce Podcast

A little over a month ago, the War On Drugs announced a live album with the extremely accurate title LIVE DRUGS. Curated from a ton of gigs spanning five years, it was whittled down and sequenced to approximate an actual War On Drugs show. It’s also positioned as something of a pivot from one era, that of Lost In The Dream and A Deeper Understanding and the band becoming what they are today, and the next. The latter is presumably looming on the horizon: A couple weeks after announcing LIVE DRUGS...

The War On Drugs played their first shows in a year at the end of 2019, perhaps an indication that the follow-up to 2017's A Deeper Understanding is on the way. Maybe the band would have gone on tour this year to road-test new material as well, but with COVID-19 keeping … More »

Watch The War On Drugs Cover Neil Young, Patti Smith, And The Pretenders At First Shows In A Year

After releasing their heavily anticipated album A Deeper Understanding in 2017, subsequently touring behind it through 2018, and along the way becoming bigger than plausibly expected even following the success of Lost In The Dream, the War On Drugs have kept pretty quiet through 2019. Maybe that means something's on the horizon for … More »

The 100 Best Albums Of The 2010s

A decade is an arbitrary measurement. They seem confined, these neat little symmetrical 10-year runs, but it's only in hindsight that we define them, that their signifiers and trends and shorthand become codified. In reality, there are bleeds, the timbre and events of one chunk of time sliding over the border into another. If you're … More »

The War On Drugs are now a major-label act with radio rotation, and with that kind of exposure comes other opportunities: for instance, opportunities to pontificate about guitars and the creative process for a 15-minute mini-documentary that doubles as an infomercial for Ernie Ball guitar strings. Dizzy Heights #42: With the Prepositions, Vol. I

Started this show late last Saturday after spending the entire day driving back home from Wisconsin. I only had a handful of song ideas. And then BOOM. The show was basically finished before I went to bed. That has never happened before. Today’s word class is the preposition! There are TONS of songs that start with them, and I’ve included 25 examples here. And I’m going to do something a little different. I’ve tried keeping my set lists secret, but I was asked to list the bands played, and tha...
