Rancher gets life in prison in beating death of his fiancee

Patrick Frazee was convicted of first-degree murder and other charges after the jury deliberated four hours. Less than an hour later, a judge sentenced him to the life term, plus 156 years, the mandatory sentence after prosecutors previously decided not to seek the death penalty. Prosecutors said Frazee, 33, killed Kelsey Berreth, a 29-year-old flight instructor and the mother of their 1-year-old, in her home.

'Mr. Robot' recap: Elliot's world crumbles

Elliot's world crumbles Let me tell you, this final season of Mr. Robot is relentless. It just keeps packing the punches, both in terms of storytelling and stylistic choices. This week's episode is commercial-free, and is basically a chamber drama that involves Vera, Krista, and Elliot. There are five acts, plenty of dialogue, a few nifty camera shots, and one truly devastating revelation. It's a trip, to say the least. Act One Vera is very emotional about finally sitting down wit...

Markelle Fultz continues comeback tour with career-high 19 points

Nineteen points isn't a lot to most No. 1 overall picks, but it's a milestone when you've had as rough a start to your career as Markelle Fultz. The top pick of the 2017 NBA draft continued an encouraging comeback campaign with the Orlando Magic on Sunday with arguably the best night of his career. Fultz posted a career-high 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting with three rebounds and two assists in 26 minutes against the Washington Wizards.

'Watchmen' recap: Squid pro quo

Welcome to EW's weekly recap of HBO's Watchmen. Each week, EW's resident comic book obsessives Chancellor Agard and Christian Holub will be breaking down the loaded drama. With each episode, Watchmen has thrown question after question after question at the audience, without giving too many answers. Well, tonight's explanation-packed episode changed all that. Written by Damon Lindelof and Carly Wray, the Wade-centric “Little Fear of Lightning” provided more insight into what h...

U.S. condemns 'unjustified use of force' in Hong Kong: senior official

The United States condemned the "unjustified use of force" in Hong Kong and called on Beijing to protect Hong Kong's freedom, a senior official in President Donald Trump's administration said Sunday, as protesters battled Hong Kong police who had trapped them inside a major university. “We condemn the unjustified use of force and urge all sides to refrain from violence and engage in constructive dialogue," the senior U.S. official said. "As the President has said, the United States expects Bei...

Conservative Group Fires Michelle Malkin Over Support for Holocaust Denier

Charley GallayA conservative group cut ties with right-wing columnist Michelle Malkin on Sunday over her support for an anti-Semitic internet personality, ramping up a growing conservative civil war centered on college campuses.Malkin’s firing from Young America’s Foundation, whose speakers bureau had booked Malkin for speeches across the country for the past 17 years, marks the latest battle between supporters of Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes and more establishment conservative figures. “Michel...

Frustrated Tom Brady not in a talkative mood after Patriots win

The brief answer was one of just nine in a brief press conference that lasted less than two minutes, Brady's frustration clearly evident. Brady's longest answer was just 11 seconds long, and he was in no mood to elaborate on any aspect of the game, whether it was positive or negative. Despite a 9-1 record that has the Patriots atop the NFL standings, Brady is keenly aware that the team has a lot to improve upon in the coming weeks.

NFL officiating confuses us again on crucial Cooper Kupp call

And we'd see another episode of the worst rule in the NFL, and the Chicago Bears would get possession. Except that's not what the ruling was. It was ruled that Kupp had started to lose the ball before his foot landed out of bounds, so it was a fumble.

Matt Nagy critical of Eddy Piñeiro after missed kicks vs. Rams: 'You’ve got to make those kicks'

Eddy Piñeiro looked like the hero the Chicago Bears needed when his 53-yard field goal secured a Week 2 win over the Denver Broncos. It's been largely downhill from there for the rookie kicker playing in the dark shadow of Cody Parkey. Things went from bad to worse early in Sunday's 17-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

'Batwoman' recap: This feels familiar ...

It's been a few weeks since I last filled in for EW's regular Batwoman recapper, but unlike Bruce Wayne, I'm back! At that point, I was still wary of the newest Arrowverse series. Now that we're seven episodes in, unfortunately, my snap judgments have proven to be correct. Think of where we were seven episodes in to Arrow — a comparison that will prove to be more relevant than I thought throughout this week's Batwoman. The CW's first Arrowverse series knew what it w...

Dwayne Haskins implores perplexed Washington linemen: 'What do I have to do to help you?'

In a game between two of the NFL's worst teams, one was appreciably better than the other. It was the latest mishap in a rude welcome to the NFL for the first-round rookie who joined arguably the league's most dysfunctional franchise, watched his head coach get fired midseason and was thrust into the starting job because Week 1 starter Case Keenum suffered injuries and proved to be inept. Haskins takes out frustration on offensive line It's gone poorly in Haskins' four regula...

'The Crown' season 3 binge recap

Warning: This post contains spoilers for season 3 of The Crown. Episode 1: “Olding” The Crown wastes no time communicating the change in its main cast. Presented with a new postage stamp that bears her profile — shown, presumably for our benefit, alongside the old one — Queen Elizabeth II (Olivia Colman) observes resignedly that there have been “a great many changes” as the camera takes in her face for the first time. “But there we are. Age is rarely kind to anyone. Nothing one can do about it. ...

Is this the infamous trash can the Astros allegedly used to steal signs in 2017?

An explosive report from The Athletic last week on the 2017 Houston Astros' alleged electronic sign-stealing system was the starter's pistol for internet sleuths across social media to find evidence of the illegal scheme. Videos have emerged of at-bats in which bangs from a reportedly nearby trashcan can be heard, and one study from Baseball Prospectus found a clear footprint of the noises in audio data from home games of the World Series champions. Now, it appears the sleuths might ha...

Trump's magic is evaporating on the campaign trail

When Donald Trump campaigns on behalf of Republican candidates, there is little doubt he inspires his base to vote. But after two high-profile Republican gubernatorial losses in deep red states — Kentucky and Louisiana — it's worth asking if Trump's efforts are animating more people to vote for Democrats than Republicans.

Protesters set fire to hold off police at Hong Kong campus

Pro-democracy demonstrators holed up in a Hong Kong university campus set the main entrance ablaze Monday to prevent surrounding police moving in, after officers warned they may use live rounds if confronted by deadly weapons. The police warning, which came after one officer was struck by an arrow, marked a further escalation of the near six-month crisis engulfing the city. Bombers head to Grey Cup with 20-13 win over Roughriders

REGINA — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are headed to the Grey Cup. After a you-had-to-see-it-to-believe-it finish here at Mosaic Stadium, which included a reversed turnover, a missed Bombers interception and then Roughriders catch, and ended with three chances to tie the game before the clock ran out, the Bombers edged the Roughriders 20-13 Sunday to claim the West Division titie. They've now punched their ticket to the 107th Grey Cup next Sunday in Calgary, where they will meet East Division w...
