As Hearing Takes Place In Background, Trump Again Attacks Juror And Judge In Stone Case

Just after U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson explained privacy restrictions she will impose to protect a juror that has become the object of conservative fury, President Donald Trump blasted a tweet to his 73 million followers attacking both the juror and the judge. There has rarely been a juror so tainted as the forewoman in the Roger Stone case. Look at her background. She never revealed her hatred of “Trump” and Stone. She was totally biased, as is the judge. Roger wasn’t even workin...

DOJ Attorney Walks Back Bill Barr’s Walk Back Of Stone Sentencing Memo

What the Justice Department said inside the courtroom Thursday at Stone’s sentencing hearing was in stark contrast with the chaos that’s swirled around the case outside the courthouse — chaos that’s been egged on by both President Trump and Attorney General Bill Barr. John Crabb  — the deputy chief of the D.C. U.S. Attorney’s office criminal division who jumped into the case after the trial team abruptly resigned last week — essentially backed the original sentencing proposal filed by the tri...

What In The World?

We’ll definitely have more on this soon, but the Justice Department ended up standing by all the sentence enhancement recommendations for Roger Stone that it made in the original sentencing memo it filed in the case, before dramatically repudiating that memo later. What happened behind the scenes exactly? Why did Barr so badly damage DOJ for so little apparent gain? I’m not sure there are satisfying answers to these questions. More soon.   [Author: David Kurtz]
