‘Cheer’ stars Gabi Butler and Lexi Brumback spotted at NYFW

There was major mutual fangirling between Gabi Butler and Lexi Brumback, of hit Netflix docuseries “Cheer,” and the supermodels at Brandon Maxwell and Tory Burch during New York Fashion Week. The peppy Navarro College champion cheerleaders were in town, courtesy of Instagram, to attend two shows and experience New York. “When Bella Hadid said ‘hi’...

Sunday Support Group: Be Prepared...For Any Old Thing

I was a Boy Scout when I was young. It was a valuable experience; I was besotted with the Civil War and the Napoleonic Wars and all things related to antiquarian wars and soldiery when I was a boy (I loved C.S. Forester's Hornblower books particularly, and read the whole series through twice), and a fortune teller gazing into her crystal ball might have presumed I was headed for at least a stint in the armed forces. The Boy Scouts demonstrated conclusively to me, however, how peculiarly unsuited...

This and That

Another group of various photos from Paris. A colorful area as I exit the metro. An unusual building in the Left Bank. I love ancient architecture not torn down for Haussmann’s redevelopment of Paris, even though I like his work. Another ancient building. Hard to beat the Saint Sulpice Church.

At the New Snow Café...

... talk about whatever you like. Photo taken at 7:23 this morning. Actual sunrise time was 7:05. The day to day change in the sunrise time is getting much bigger. The sunlight period is increasing by more than 2 and a half minutes a day —  [Author: [email protected] (Ann Althouse)]

The winners of Flickr’s Best Shot 2019 are absolute stunners

More than 17,000 photos were submitted to Flickr’s contest. The five winners received a $200 gift card from Blurb each. This isn’t a lot of prize, but there is quite a bit of bragging rights involved, I guess. Flickr invited five photographers from the community to assist with the nominations and appointed three in-house judges […] The post The winners of Flickr’s Best Shot 2019 are absolute stunners appeared first on DIY Photography.

Thoughts from a mehil

So, last night, I went to this musical mehfil, as the curator put it. They had three groups performing their sets. While all of those are fairly known in their circles (of musicians, producers, community, etc), I was unaware that they existed. And I was in for a surprise. The music was EXACTLY the kinds that I like. Earthy, Hindustani (mix of Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Bhojpuri, Bhajan, etc), with meaningful lyrics, played without any bells or whistles (acoustic mostly), by young people (that are not ...

The tiny light that can; an INSSTRO C1 RGB LED review

Light – the most important thing in photography.  Without it, we have nothing but darkness.  Some of us like to capture and bend the natural light to our needs. How I shot the weekend’s Supermoon in Antarctica

Shayne McGuire captured the Snow Moon in Antarctica this weekend. The name ‘Snow Moon’ has its origin from Native American tribes. Here is when you should use filters instead of Photoshop

As a landscape photographer, I find it both a convenience and an inconvenience to use filters. For example, using filters for balancing light in a scene,  eliminates the need for bracketed shooting. This saves space on my memory card and on my hard drive. On the other hand, sometimes things happen so fast that mounting […] The post Here is when you should use filters instead of Photoshop appeared first on DIY Photography.
