Random Excellence: Giants?

Might call this "random interest" rather than excellence, but it's curious. You might want to look at the picture carefully before reading on. We were talking about the novel Giants in the Earth the other day, and I ran across the old snapshot above on a site called Ipernity. The original poster, Alan Mays, was given it as a Christmas present. A few different elements conspire to create a visual illusion. The small size of the tractor and the boy driving it, the looming hill in the background, ...

Vertical Movies Are Coming Whether Anyone Actually Wants to Watch Them

Smartphone cameras have become so good that they’ve turned us all into amateur directors. But because social networks like Snapchat and Instagram encourage vertical videos, we don’t shoot the horizontal footage that makes sense for, say, a movie. That’s fine when an Instagram Story video is only 15 seconds long. But…Read more...

Facebook’s latest experiment is Hobbi, an app to document your personal projects

Facebook is adding another app to its group of experimental projects from the NPE Team, an initiative it announced last year focused on rapidly trying out new ideas in social to see how users react. This week, the team released its fourth app experiment with the launch of Hobbi, a photo and video sharing app designed for documenting your personal projects and hobbies. Though Hobbi takes obvious cues from Pinterest, it’s not just a pinboard of inspirational ideas. Instead, the app is designed to ...

I stopped with a friend for a glass of wine in this charming café. The exterior. It was a bit chilly outside but I guess if you have to smoke, why not? A sign inside which means the prices bring you in but the quality keeps you there. It was hanging on a coat rack. My glass of white wine being poured. It was nice to have glass to look through and see the architecture outside, not to mention the blue sky.

I hate to give this boomer any credit, but some of the memes are actually kinda funny. Here are they: View this post on In...
