There might be no games being played on the pitch, but there is a lot of actively happening off it, and that is a problem for Spurs CEO Daniel Levy and manager Jose Mourinho, That is because Tottenham Hotspur’s best player Harry Kane for the first time said that he is not sure of his future lies with his boyhood club. Asked by Jamie Redknapp on an Instagram live session whether he would end his playing career at Spurs, the 26-year-old striker responded that it all depends on the “progress of th...

The L.A. Sparks’ Sydney Wiese said Friday on social media that she has tested positive for COVID-19. Other than experiencing minor symptoms, including the possible tell-tale loss of taste and smell, she said she’s doing well and remains quarantined with her parents at their Phoenix home. ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ star Alaska gives glamour tips for quarantine before Digital Drag Fest

After the global spread of the novel coronavirus forced the cancellation of RuPaul’s DragCon, which was set for May 1-3 in Los Angeles, and the bars and clubs shut down in West Hollywood, drag queens and other LGBTQ artists quickly adapted to streaming content to help save their livelihood. “We don’t miss a beat, honey,” Los Angeles-based drag performer Alaska, who was runner-up on season five of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and winner of the second season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars,” said during ...

With coronavirus-prompted distance learning, teens cope with social isolation, new stressors

A cluster of friends high-fived and chatted at the entrance to Reseda Charter High on Wednesday morning, standing rather close to one another at a time when public health officials caution against breaching 6 feet with anyone outside your household. They stood in a line that snaked around the block to pick up school-issued laptops for remote instruction. It’s been nearly two weeks since schools in Southern California and across the nation shuttered, hoping to hamper spread of the coronavirus pan...

UMPQUA - Live Signature Tyer Sessions

I've been impressed by how hard so many companies are working in the fly fishing and outdoors space in looking for engagement and diversions for their customers during the coronavirus pandemic.  Many are working from home and hot wiring technology and platforms to spark off something fun for the masses.  Umpqua is hard at it and last night kicked off their Live Signature Tyer Sessions through their Instagram page.  These almost nightly tying sessions feature famed fly tiers from around the globe...

How to turn your living space into a home office, home school and more during coronavirus

It’s not something we’ve had to think about before: What happens when your family is home all or the most of the day, trying to work, do schoolwork, create, cook, exercise and relax? You might find yourself having to create multiple workspaces – for you, your spouse and your kids to do schoolwork. You also have to find ways to keep the common areas functional and free of clutter. Luckily, those with experience in working from home, as well as interior designers, professional organizers, homes...

Frumpy Middle-aged Mom: How to make your hairdresser cry

Now, in the middle of this crazy time, I’m sure you are all worried about the same thing I am: What your hair is going to look like when it’s over. With all the beauty shops, salons and day spas shut down — even though they are clearly essential services — it’s just impossible to take care of any personal grooming. On the glorious day when we all emerge like grizzly bears from hibernation, I’m expecting us all to stumble out of our houses looking like Yetis. Hairy, unshaven, wild-eyed, blinking ...

Tailor Made By V. Huttley - The LAST Lucky 7 Oberon Fly Reel

It took four years of work and Tailor Made By V. Huttley has just one Lucky 7 Oberon Fly Reel left for some fortunate angler who appreciates arguably the most iconic brew of summert.  This post is timely since Bell's Brewery is releasing Oberon today with an online release party through their Facebook page.In case you are wondering, this last Lucky 7 fly reel has a dark blue fiberglass handle on it and I believe is priced at $500 for this handmade piece of art. You likely have some time to kill...

How USC football is continuing some workouts amid coronavirus quarantine

This wasn’t exactly the spring that USC football had in mind. The Trojans had just one spring practice, the beginning of implementing a new defense and a new physicality, before concerns about the spread of COVID-19 led to USC and the Pac-12 to suspend all team activities, including football practices, as part of social distancing. Now, most of the team has gone home for spring and is not allowed back on USC’s campus. So the Trojans have had to get creative with how they work out in quarantine. ...

KORKERS - The Original Social Distancing Competition

I guess as anglers, we've had years of experience with the idea of "social distancing" and Korkers kicked off a contest this week looking for how you're doing it on the water.  There's a free pair of books up for grabs for the winner.  Good luck. From Korkers... Let’s band together as an outdoor community to do what we love, and share that experience, at a distance, with others across the country. #theoriginalsocialdistanci ng Note: Please follow CDC and local regulations, and never endan...

Long Beach’s 4th & Orange is looking beyond the city limits for fame

It’s a tight fit for the 4th & Orange inside the Dubshack, a home recording studio the members built out of a tiny garage in the backyard of a gray two-story home on a quiet Lakewood residential neighborhood. But from this small space where a set of drums almost blocks the front door, the band has released a few songs that have amassed millions of views on YouTube. And in the short year they’ve been together, the five-piece reggae-rock group 4th & Orange, named after the Long Beach corner where ...

Happy Birthday Zdeno Chara – 7 Cool Things About the Big Guy

When thinking about Boston Bruins defender Zdeno Chara, one word should come to mind. That word, as you might have guessed, is big. Whether it big his stature, his contributions to the team or his contributions to the city of Boston, everything about Chara screams “big.” It’s for that reason that a player near 7-feet tall deserves an article highlighting seven things about him that every hockey fan should know. 1. Chara is a Large Human Being As mentioned, the first word that should c...

Think Local, Support Local, Shop Local

Undoubtedly these are weird times and this post is somewhat of a departure from the daily flow of fly fishing content that I typically like to provide.  My real life work is in law enforcement and we're working through the coronavirus pandemic cautiously while continuing to provide police services to our town.  There are a lot of things to consider and this will go down in my career as another incident that had a global impact but required a local response.  My guess is that how we look at publi...
