Veteran Democrat Joe Biden campaigned for president in all but name Saturday, declining to announce his 2020 plans but dropping hints, including a significant gaffe that suggests he will soon be all in. As the number of White House hopefuls keeps growing -- at least 14 Democrats are officially in the race -- Biden is now the last major politician who is contemplating jumping in. Then, a startling slip by the notoriously gaffe-prone Biden -- perhaps an accident, perhaps a perfectly placed tease...

To the non-Muslim colleagues who reached out, supported, and aided the Muslim friends and communities around the world, showing solidarity against hatred and violence, thank you. To the many police offers, security personnel, and volunteers who sto...

Where’s Mick? The Hands-Off COS Was In Las Vegas During Nat’l Emergency Debacle

WASHINGTON (AP) — As President Donald Trump struggled with mounting Republican defections over his emergency declaration to pay for a border wall, his acting White House chief of staff wasn’t on Capitol Hill cajoling former colleagues or in the West Wing making calls. Instead, Mick Mulvaney was in Las Vegas for an annual getaway with friends and family. It was a telling example of Mulvaney’s laissez-faire approach as he settles into a role that has bedeviled those who came before him. His pre...

Here's a running list of all the ways climate change has altered Earth in 2019

And concentrations of carbon dioxide -- a potent greenhouse gas -- are likely the highest they've been in 15 million years. The consequences of such a globally-disrupted climate are many, and it's understandably difficult to keep track. To help, here's a list of climate-relevant news that has transpired in 2019, from historically unprecedented disappearances of...

U.S. eases protections for threatened bird in Western states

Conservation groups denounced the move as a handout to the oil and gas industries, while an industry group praised it. Former President Barack Obama's 2015 plan to protect the ground-dwelling sage grouse imposed restrictions to development in their habitat but fell short of placing the bird on the endangered species list, which would have imposed far more rigid rules. Of the 11 Western states included in the 2015 plans, seven opted for changes, according to BLM.
