Tesla Plant Sees 195% Surge in Time Off Due to Injuries

Staff at the automaker’s lone assembly plant in Fremont, California, spent almost three times as many days off the job because of work-related injuries and illness in 2018 as the year before, an indication of just how much strain they were under as they manufactured electric cars at scale for the first time. When taking headcount growth into account, the amount of time away per worker doubled last year, according to Tesla’s report to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, while the ...

The Tesla Model Y Came With No Surprises and That’s the Point

No Falcon Doors. No crazy gimmicks like Bioweapon Defense Mode. No pickup truck. No zany new features to spread to other cars. Tesla Raises Prices as Musk Backtracks on Closing Stores

Tesla will increase the cost of its vehicles by an average of about 3 percent after rethinking a plan announced just 10 days earlier to wind down all but a small number of its stores. The blog post doesn’t give a rationale for why Tesla is backpedaling. Musk blindsided many sales personnel at the company with the store closings, and some investors and analysts feared the cost-cutting measures sent troubling signals about the state of the company’s sales and cash position.

Tesla to Raise Prices, Backtracks on Closing Most Stores

The move comes days after Tesla’s announcement to sell cars on an online-only platform to help save costs. The abrupt move earlier this month by Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk, contrasting with an expanding network of retail spaces, sparked concern about Tesla’s finances. Musk described the winding down of many stores as a cost-cutting move that enables Tesla to offer a long-promised $35,000 version of the Model 3 sedan, the automaker’s first mass-market vehicle.

Tesla's store-shuttering strategy may pull the rug out of solar

Tesla Inc's sudden decision to shutter the bulk of its stores around the world raises a red flag over the future of its solar branch, a declining business it paid $2.6 billion for in a controversial 2016 deal.
