Behavior Issues: Can a Parent Stop You From Continuing to Date Their Minor Child

My question involves restraining orders in the State of: Illinois and Texas Ok, so some background. My girlfriend and I have been dating for a year and a half this December 1. We've not had very many issues, and her parents seemed to like me when I went to visit for her 16th birthday. I was 19 when we met, turned 20 soon after, and she turned 16 the following December. She's turning 17 this next December (less than a month away), and I am currently 21. As this is a long distance relationshi...

Hunting Black Bear With The Ruger AR 556 In 450 Bushmaster

We discussed this earlier, and a reader sends this my way. I have been involved in shooting probably 100 bear or more in my life so I have seen what works well and what does not. You would expect that bigger is better, but I would argue against that logic. Many magnums (IE: 7mm Rem. Mag, 300 WSM, 28 Nosler, etc.) are what people show up with because of this thought. These rounds tend to penetrate through and through and then dump the rest of their remaining energy (typically a lot) into the tree...

Contest To See Who Can Be The Worse Gun Rights Offender

Is it the first circuit court of tyrants deciding for Massachusetts? “(T)he First Circuit of the US Court of Appeals ruled that the right to self-defense is at its “zenith inside the home,” and the right is “plainly more circumscribed” outside. “The “core right” protected by the Second Amendment is for citizens to use arms in defense of home, the court said in its decision. “Public carriage of firearms for self-defense falls outside the perimeter of this core right.” Because after all, when a ma...

Is coworking a viable option for solo and small firm lawyers?

Here is a recent Daily Record column. My past Daily Record articles can be accessed here. ***** It is beyond dispute that technology has changed the legal landscape. Brick and mortar offices are no longer a requirement, as more lawyers than ever transition their firms’ data from paper to digital. As a result, the days of paper files and being tethered to your desk are long gone. Instead, lawyers have more options than ever due to technological advancements. The proliferation of internet a...

Viewing the 2018 mid-terms through a Texas #cjreform lens

There are many lenses through which to view the 2018 mid-term elections. On this blog, your correspondent examines Texas politics and policy through the lens of a criminal-justice reformer, so let's think about the election in that vein for just a moment. At the national level, the only viable criminal-justice reform proposal out there is the First-Step Act, with Sen. Chuck Grassley's sentencing-reform measures now amended onto it. Neither Dems taking the US House nor a few extra R senators sho...

Recovery of Premises: Entering Rental Premises After Expiration of 10 Day Notice for Appeal of Eviction

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Pennsylvania I have been awarded judgment for possession including the monetary portion against a tenant. I cannot determine if premises are vacated since tenant has refused to communicate. The 10 day appeal period following the judgment is about to elapse (unlikely the tenant will appeal the eviction). Can I enter the premises on the 11th day without notice? I have researched the #2 statement on the judgment but the meaning to me is...

"Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is not conceding defeat to Democrat Tony Evers."

Custody and Visitation Issues: Monitoring Phone Contact Between a Child and the Other Parent

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: FLORIDA Can someone please tell me what type of Motion would need to be filed to be able to monitor my child's phone contact with his mother? I am the primary parent and when my son talks to his mother via the phone, all she ever does is encourage him to act bad, do bad in school, not listen to me and his step-mother and she ask questions relating to my personal life. I have limited phone contact due to this, but I would like a cour...

Hiding secret messages in whale song

Most military underwater surveillance systems filter out whale calls along with other ambient ocean noise. This inspired researchers from China's Tianjin University to create a form of "bio-inspired steganography" in which recordings of whale songs can be edited to contain secret messages and then electronically transmitted underwater. From Newsweek: In research published in IEEE Communication Magazine, the team said there are two ways to hide signals in whale pulses—changing the signal to i...

"President Trump forced out Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Wednesday, ending a partnership that soured almost from the start of the administration..."

"... and degenerated into one of the most acrimonious public standoffs between a commander in chief and a senior cabinet member in modern American history. Mr. Sessions’s resignation, made at the president’s request, was being delivered to John Kelly, Mr. Trump’s chief of staff. It came just a day after midterm elections in which Democrats captured control of the House, but Republican success in holding onto the Senate and building their slim majority may make it easier for the president to conf...
