It Begins: The Police Start To Bully Gun Owners In New Zealand

From reddit/firearms: One never knows exactly what to think of some of the sources on reddit, this may be legitimate and it may not be.  But the weight of evidence is on the side of legitimacy.  Gateway Pundit has this. Now that police in New Zealand are going door-to-door to confiscate firearms, which involves bird-dogging people at work and monitoring their online activity, one man who has gotten caught up in the covfefe was recently stripped of his airsoft BB guns and his crossbow. Here’s t...

Infringing by Using a System vs Making/Selling the System

by Dennis Crouch Omega Patents LLC v. CalAmp Corp. (Fed. Cir. 2019) Omega’s patents cover remote control and monitoring systems for vehicles.  The defendant, CalAmp, helps companies and governments monitor their vehicles (location and status, such as battery health and vehicle speed).  In the infringement trial, a Florida jury sided with the patentee – finding the patents willfully infringed and not invalid.  The district court then trebled the damages and awarded attorney fees — for a tidy sum...

Massad Ayoob: “Give The Cops All Your Guns”

Massad Ayoob: For April 2019, the question was what to do if the police showed up at your home with a warrant authorizing them to seize your firearms.  You can find it here. Spoiler alert: their unanimous advice is “Don’t resist.  Allow them to take the weapons. Sort it out later in court.” So at the risk of being too simplistic, this isn’t really a viable long term strategy because red flag laws are subject to the whims of the court, and the color of your eyes may disqualify you from owning fir...

Good Christians Need Not Own Guns

New Haven Independent: The activists come from different backgrounds: Claiborne is an evangelical author and anti-violence activist. Martin is a Mennonite pastor turned blacksmith. Both of them believe in the necessity of a “Christian response” to the American gun violence crisis. The tour was planned to coincide with the pre-Easter season of Lent, when many Christians reflect on the sanctity of life. [ … ] First Claiborne read aloud a prayer that he had written to commemorate the event. “Dear G...

New Mexico Attorney General Tries To Extort Sheriffs

News from New Mexico: Attorney General Hector Balderas’ warning comes after at least 26 New Mexico counties passed “Second Amendment sanctuary” resolutions in opposition to guns laws decided by state lawmakers this year, including the measure requiring background checks. Counties in several states, including Colorado and Illinois, have passed similar resolutions recently in opposition to newly passed or potential gun restriction measures. Balderas, a Democrat, wrote in a letter to the...

Politifact On Gun Regulation In Nazi Germany

Politifact: “Let’s make something clear: The Nazis did deny guns specifically to Jews. But, given the size of their forces and their methods of confiscation and extermination, this is a trivial factor. The notion that it would have made any difference is unreasonable.” Let’s make one thing clear: yes they did.  This isn’t even a variant of the old “Nazis had gun control for all, not just the Jews” argument.  It’s the same thing, just rehashed on Politifact. We’ve dealt with it before.  The Nazis...

How to steal money at an ATM if you don't have a skimmer

Thieves in Dungiven, Northern Ireland, figured out a clever way to get cash at an ATM without having to install skimmers and wait for punters to come along: tear the entire thing out with a fourteen-ton digger. The footage shows the digger driving through a security gate then tearing the machine from the wall. ... The cash machine was lifted into a Citroen Berlingo car which had part of its roof cut off. A number of masked men are seen in the footage. The raid lasted just over four minutes. Aft...

With Regulators Increasing Focus on Spam Robocalls, Arkansas Follows Others States in Passing Anti-Spoofing Privacy Law

Laura E. Goldsmith Unwanted robocalls reportedly totaled 26.3 billion calls in 2018, sparking more and more consumer complaints to the FCC and FTC and increased legislative and regulatory activity to combat the practice. Some automated calls are beneficial, such as school closing announcements, bank fraud warnings, and medical notifications, and some caller ID spoofing is justified, such as certain law enforcement or investigatory purposes and domestic violence shelter use.  However, consumers h...

Deprivation of Civil Rights: HOA Violation Civil Code 4705 and Federal Flag Act

My question involves civil rights in the State of: My HOA has denied me the right to put up a flag on my property. I have a permit from the city (which seems completely overkill and beyond) but have yet to have the work done as it is gonna be costly. The HOA keeps saying they are not denying me the right to fly the us flag, just a flag pole. Now they are putting a 90 day moratorium on all flagpole applications as a proposed flagpole rule is currently pending. The HOA has their own flagpole...

"HOOHA may appear in the dictionary with the definition that you see in the clue..."

"... but I can tell you that is not how that 'word' exists in most people's minds in 2019. I wanted HOOPLA and honestly considered the possibility that I'd have to cram two letters into one box somewhere in there."Writes Rex Parker about today's NYT crossword, which clued "hooha" as "Big to-do." Anyway... my dictionary, the unlinkable OED, defines "hooha" with one meaning only, "A commotion, a rumpus, a row." Historical examples include:1931 Punch 14 Oct. 402/1 The devil of a hoo-ha in the p...

"In Washington, she hasn’t done much—let’s be honest, who in the Senate has in recent years?"

"She introduced a few bills: one, with Kentucky Republican Rand Paul, to study reforming the cash-bail system; another, with 13 Democratic colleagues, to begin addressing the high mortality rates black women face in childbirth. She also introduced, with fellow Democratic presidential candidate Cory Booker and Republican Tim Scott, a bill to make lynching a hate crime. This last one was classic Harris: tough on crime, seemingly progressive, entirely risk-free. It passed the Senate unanimously."Fr...

What Will a Psych Eval Accomplish

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: MO Ex was put on the state registry for child abuse this year and also has a separate criminal case for abuse that has been sent to the prosecutor. Ex maintains that he is innocent and claims I'm mentally unstable and have brainwashed the kids into believing they were abused. Because of this, the court has ordered that we both undergo a psych eval, but I don't really understand why. What will a psych eval accomplish? I didn't brain...
