Rothco's Employee Gear Review

Hello! My name is Susie and I am the Digital Marketing Coordinator here at Rothco. Recently, I had the pleasure of being able to take one of our popular travel bags on a trip with me to really put it to the test! The bag I used was Rothco's Canvas Long Weekender Bag. It was the perfect bag for exactly that, a long weekend! We traveled to Austin, Texas together where the bag fit all of my belongings, including too much clothing for a 3-night stay. The weekender's side compartments allowed me t...

Applying to Rent: Can a Landlord Rescind an Agreement to Lease Then Retain a Holding Deposit

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Ohio A prospective tenant filled out an application and left the co-applicant line blank. She said there would be 3 people living in the apartment. She mentioned kids so I assumed it was 2 kids. We made a verbal agreement for her to rent the apartment. She gave me a holding deposit of $425. When we met later in the month ( the 25th) to sign the lease, to transfer the keys and receive the remaining deposit and 1st month's rent, she m...

Fraternal Order of Police President Chuck Canterbury Picked To Head ATF

National Association for Gun Rights. Late on Friday afternoon the White House released an official statement that Chuck Canterbury, Jr. was nominated to become the next ATF Director. Unfortunately, Canterbury has a long history of publicly supporting and endorsing anti-gun policies, anti-gun Supreme Court nominees, and anti-gun high ranking government officials. In his official capacity as President of the National Fraternal Order of Police, Canterbury has: *** Supported radical anti-gun Supreme...

Texas Lawmakers Approve Safe Gun Storage Program

And brace yourselves for the surprise culprits. Lawmakers in gun-loving Texas have quietly gone around the National Rifle Assn. by slipping language into a massive spending bill that would fund a $1-million public safety campaign on gun storage. The last-minute move late Sunday sets up a political test rarely seen in Texas for Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, who must decide whether to veto the spending or to ignore NRA opposition and approve the program. [ … ] The campaign for safe home gun sto...

This Case is Controversial: Competitor Standing Insufficient for IPR Challenge

by Dennis Crouch AVX Corp. v. Presidio Components, Inc. (Fed. Cir. 2019) In this case, the Federal Circuit dismissed AVX’s appeal — holding that the patent challenger lacked standing to appeal after losing on the merits in the Inter Partes Review (IPR). AVX (its subsidiary ATC) and Presidio are competitors in the electronic components market, including sales of capacitors — the subject of Presidio’s patent here.  See U.S. Patent No. 6,661,639.  These companies have repeatedly battled in court ov...

Opinion analysis: The First Amendment, probable cause and questions left unanswered

On Tuesday, in Nieves v. Bartlett, a majority finally agreed on a standard for how probable cause affects a civil damages action for First Amendment retaliatory arrest under 42 U.S.C. § 1983: A plaintiff must show the absence of probable cause to arrest as an element of the claim and the presence of probable cause will defeat most claims, unless a plaintiff presents “objective evidence that he was arrested when otherwise similarly situated individuals not engaged in the same sort of protected sp...

Are Lawyers Just Terrible Writers? — See Also

Writing 101: One of the most important lessons every attorney should learn. Are the floodgates about to open? This cropped up on Friday, but after we had published our "See Also" so let's start pondering whether or not Gunderson's kicked off the summer bonus season. The pitch for plaintiffs: We've got not one, but two podcasts about the other side of the "versus." It's time to celebrate: Happy graduation! Here's an epic cake for the occasion. At some point, it's your fault: Lawyers keep bein...

Parking Tickets: Ticket for Parking Along a Green Curb

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: California I received a ticket for parking along a green curb (in privet housing community) past the allowed time. However, there are no signs or writting on the curb telling you how long your allowed to park, simply just a green curb. Does there have to be a sign or writting on the curb for them to actually enforce this?

A “view” from the courtroom: Running hot and cold

We’re now past Memorial Day, and almost into June, so we are in the home stretch of October 2018 term. Today, like many days this term, the big news will come at 9:30 a.m. with the release of orders. The per curiam decision in the abortion-related case Box v. Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky Inc. will dominate the attention of court-watchers more than anything that occurs in the courtroom today. Among other characteristics, the opinion features some sharp elbows between Justices Claren...

The Navy is reviewing whether service members violated Defense Department regulations by wearing "Make Aircrew Great Again" uniform patches during President Trump's visit to their ship in Japan, reports the Associated Press. Here's a photo of the patch by Vivian Salama, a reporter from the Wall Street Journal. Supreme Court of Canada to rule on the enforceability of arbitration clauses

Back in January, an Ontario court ruled that Uber's arbitration clause couldn't keep its drivers from suing it; Uber has appealed to the Supreme Court of Canada, which has taken up the case and will hear arguments about whether arbitration clauses (through which the parties surrender the right to sue in court) are enforceable in "adhesion contracts" (contracts that are not negotiated, where one party has much less power than the other, such as in click-through agreements). The Supreme Court...

Fine Gael TD provokes widespread scorn after claim for swing fall

Party blames poor local polls result on ‘hypocrisy’ as Maria Bailey feeds ire with witchhunt claim – and 10km run It was a regular swing, with two ropes and a wooden slat, but when Maria Bailey fell off it a farce ensued which embarrassed Ireland’s government, pushed election results off the front pages, and set a new standard in political hara-kiri.It began with a scene worthy of Mr Bean. Bailey, a TD (member of parliament) from Ireland’s ruling Fine Gael party, was on a night out with friends ...

"I started keeping a log of funny things said, including, 'I saved some for Little Goo' (her sister), and 'can I have some mau to warm me?'"

"It turned out something I was initially ashamed of doing ultimately felt normal. Her current vocabulary for it is 'Mom can I have a teeny?,' as in 'a teeny sip.' When she asks for 'more teeny' it sounds exactly like 'martini' — to her, it’s always five o’clock somewhere.... What if more of us came out of our boxes and shared our stories? We’d evolve past harmful judgment — and have a few more laughs."Writes Liza Monroy in "Breast-feeding a 3.5-year-old isn’t creepy, it’s hilarious" (WaPo). [Aut...
