Movement In Florida Open Carry

The good. TALLAHASSEE – Floridians would be able to carry guns openly in public without a license under a bill filed Tuesday by state Rep. Anthony Sabatini. The measure, called “constitutional carry,” is already in place in 16 other states. It would allow lawful gun owners to carry weapons openly without a license in places where concealed guns are currently allowed. “Somebody should be able to exercise [their Second Amendment] right without a cost,” said Sabatini, R-Howey-in-the-Hills. “I...

New Case Law Derails Sentencing Of Nevada County Man In Federal Weapons Case

The ripples of this case are just beginning. A South County man indicted by a federal grand jury in 2015 on weapons and marijuana charges was set to be sentenced today after taking a plea agreement. Regular readers are likely tired of my many posts about the provision of the FIRST STEP Act that now allows federal courts to directly reduce sentences under the (so-called compassionate release) statutory provisions of 18 U.S.C. § 3582(c)(1)(A) without awaiting a motion by the Bureau of Prisons.  But I am not close to tired of telling all the interesting stories of federal prisoners that now come to light via this provision, and this local press article reports on the latest interesting defenda...
