11062018 – CrossFit

Yay for another 5:30am class time.  Not many people are thankful for morning meetings off-site but they help me get to the AM classes so I love ’em!! It was nice to actually do some deadlifting in class today instead of at the Bouldering gym. We had a nice little warm-up prepping for both the Deadlift and the MetCon.  Getting some overhead work (farmers carry) and some Good Mornings.  Then we did some warm-ups with the barbell and hit our 5×2 at 88%.  This was pretty heavy. I had 235# on the bar...

Day in and day out, the Clippers’ Tobias Harris is proving a dependable asset

LOS ANGELES — The Clippers returned from their three-game trip preaching consistency: They needed to put together four quarters to buck a developing habit of dropping swaths of game action, as they did when they fell apart during the third quarter at Oklahoma City and fell far behind during the second quarter in Philadelphia. “One thing that we can get from the two losses that we had is we have to play for 48 minutes,” forward Danilo Gallinari said. “Winning games is tough, so we have to do it f...

USOC moves to shut down USA Gymnastics

The U.S. Olympic Committee has initiated steps to strip USA Gymnastics of its national governing body status having run out of patience with the Indianapolis-based organization’s inability to establish effective leadership and eradicate a culture of abuse that enabled Larry Nassar’s decades long sexual abuse of Olympians and hundreds of other young gymnasts. The move comes less than two years before the 2020 Olympic Games and against the backdrop of a series of missteps by USA Gymnastics executi...

USC men’s basketball preview: Trojans ready to turn the page after a ‘taxing’ 2017-18 season

LOS ANGELES — A year ago, USC’s basketball team was minted with a preseason top-10 ranking while ensnared in an FBI investigation into bribery and corruption in the sport that led to the firing of its top assistant coach and season-long absence of its best defensive player. The lead-up to this season, which begins Tuesday night against Robert Morris, has garnered fewer national headlines. The federal investigation has faded into the background, and the season predictions for the Trojans have bee...

UCLA men’s basketball preview: Bruins are deep, talented, but inexperienced

Moses Brown barely has to jump to slam down a two-handed dunk in practice. The towering 7-foot-1 freshman’s lanky arms look almost like elastic as he effortlessly extends them toward the rim. But Steve Alford was not completely pleased. There was supposed to be a ball screen at the elbow. It’s coded in the play call. The Bruins run it again. As No. 21 UCLA prepares to open its season Tuesday at home against Purdue Fort Wayne, this is likely the tallest team Alford has had in his six years in Wes...

Sanchez gives Man United options at Juventus

London (AFP) – Alexis Sanchez has endured a torrid start to his Manchester United career but hinted at better things to come with an impressive display in a central role ahead of the Champions League match against Juventus. The injured Romelu Lukaku missed the 2-1 win at Bournemouth on Saturday and Marcus Rashford started on the bench as Jose Mourinho opted for a three-man forward line, with Anthony Martial and Juan Mata deployed either side of Sanchez. The former Arsenal man was instrumental i...

Exploring Lucas Torreira’s impact on Arsenal

When it was reported that Arsenal were in fact keen on signing Lucas Torreira this summer from Sampdoria, many fans of the north London club rushed to YouTube to see what kind of player they were possibly getting. For activists, blue and red, election day is a transition point, not an end

Aaron McCall was sure Hillary Clinton was going to win the Presidency in 2016. When it turned out he was wrong — and Clinton lost to President Donald Trump — McCall decided it was time to get involved. For John Berry, who has pushed for conservative ideals since 2012, Trump’s election meant there was something worth fighting for. While both men fall on different sides of the political spectrum, their work over the past two years culminates today, Tuesday, Nov. 6, as voters head to the polls to c...

Afternoon Player Notes (Nov 5)

The Carolina Hurricanes offered up an update on goaltender Petr Mrazek on Monday, saying that he is actually dealing with a lower-body injury at the moment and he could miss a little bit more time.  It wasn't quite the rotation of having three goalies on the active roster, but having three goalies has worked out in their favour, if this injury is significant.  He's listed as day-to-day at the [Author: Clayton Corley]

Reflect on democracy and autocracy this election day

Today, election day, we celebrate freedom. In the long history of civilization, opportunities for humans to choose their own governments have been vanishingly few. We ought to reflect on that blessing. America’s liberty was defended in battle by some, but for most of us, it is an inheritance we did nothing to deserve. For those in that latter category, myself included, our duty is to exercise that liberty today — and tomorrow to show our country’s ability to work together, with respect, whoever ...
