Tom Wilson goes full Tom Wilson in return from suspension

After nearly decapitating St. Louis Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist with a devastating pre-season hit, Tom Wilson made his return to the Capitals lineup on Tuesday night, and his first game back — to the delight of Caps fans and probably the chagrin of everyone else — was very productive in a very Tom Wilson kind of way. Naturally, Wilson dropped the mitts and tossed a few knuckles in his first game back, too, going toe-to-toe in a spirited scrap with the Wild’s Marcus Foligno. Wilson originally r...

NFL must learn from Rams vs. Chiefs blunder in Mexico City for future international games

Considering all the logistical challenges, the NFL’s International Series has gone off pretty well since its inception in 2007. The NFL had to move Monday’s Kansas City Chiefs-Los Angeles Rams game from Mexico City back to Los Angeles due to substandard turf issues at Estadio Azteca. An October Shakira concert, a slew of soccer games and the general problems associated with new grass that was installed last spring did the game in.

Kings’ Drew Doughty would like to keep all his time on ice

LOS ANGELES — Kings interim coach Willie Desjardins was talking recently about how he wants to cut down the average shift-time for his players, shaving about 10 seconds to get to an average of just more than 40 seconds. In the next breath, when asked, he said he’s also looking to reduce the average time-on-ice for defenseman Drew Doughty, who typically is at or near the top of the league in TOI. That’s the case again this season, as he leads the NHL at 27:01. He was first last season at 26:50 an...

Phil Kessel tosses hands for the first time in a while against New Jersey

Phil ‘The Thrill’ Kessel usually draws fans into NHL buildings because of his speed, offensive creativity and lethal wrist shot. With his Pittsburgh Penguins on the power play trailing 1-0, Kessel redirected a pass from Sidney Crosby into the back of the net for his eighth goal of the season. After things got a little heated in the middle frame between the 31-year-old veteran and Brett Seney (yeah, we don’t know much about him either), Kessel provided hockey fans with exactly what they wanted.

5 Things You Must Do on a Visit to Ottawa

Ottawa. Canada’s Capital. The city I grew up in, have a soft spot for – and one of the few places in Canada where I’d happily live again. Every time I go back, I marvel at how vibrant the city has become. How much there is to do. I leave thinking next time I come back I’ll leave time to wander the museums I’ve never set foot in, sip coffee in cute locally run cafes, shoot down the rapids on a raft on the Ottawa River – in sight of the Parliament Buildings, and perhaps even take a ride in a bipla...
