Ovechkin passes Fedorov for most NHL points by Russian

Alex Ovechkin overtook Sergei Fedorov Tuesday for the most regular-season points scored in the NHL by a Russian-born player as the Washington Capitals beat Vancouver 3-2. Ovechkin's assist on T.J. Oshie's first-period goal was enough to see him break a tie with Fedorov as he moved to 1,180 points in his 14 NHL seasons. The 33-year-old Capitals captain broke the record in his 1,055th NHL game -- 193 games fewer than Fedorov played.
