Kyler Murray sends mixed signals to scouts

Would-be quarterback Kyler Murray is sending the kind of mixed signals that will cause scouts to take nothing he says at face value. A week after declaring that “I eagerly await the opportunity to continue to prove to NFL decision makers that I am the franchise QB in this draft,” Murray said he's unsure about whether he'll throw at the Scouting Combine. And while I always support the decision of any player to not participate in one or more of the events of the Underwear Olympics (espec...

Starting Tuesday, Eagles can franchise tag Nick Foles ... but will they?

Today marks the first day that NFL teams can slap a franchise tag (or transition tag) on a pending free agent, which basically gives that player a one-year deal at a pretty high salary for a season (average of the top five players at that position). The idea here is that the Eagles could possibly slap a franchise tag on Foles and then trade him to get back better compensation than they'd eventually get from a compensatory pick for 2020.

Kings’ Alex Iafallo working hard for goals, wins

LOS ANGELES — Kings forward Alex Iafallo plays for a team that has had difficulty putting the puck in the net this season. The Kings were averaging 2.40 goals going into Monday’s game against Washington at Staples Center, with only the Ducks lower at 2.20. It is therefore understandable there would be some personal scoring droughts along the way, and not just from Iafallo, who has played the majority of the season on the top line centered by Anze Kopitar. Iafallo in December scored goals in four...

Whicker: Kings’ Brendan Leipsic hopes NHL trade deadline is as uneventful as it looks

EL SEGUNDO — The NHL trade deadline is next Monday. It might as well be one of those unofficial Canadian holidays, like John Candy’s birthday. Fans peer into their phones for any sign of life, as the sports studios arrange their triple-panel discussions. Correspondents migrate to the front office doors throughout Canada. It’s the most fun one can have until July 1, known colloquially as Stupid Contract Day in the hockey world. It won’t be much fun in Southern California. We’re looking at a no-pl...

Kyler Murray: No expectations but going to Arizona would be nice

The Cardinals have done their best to squash the “Kyler Murray-to-Arizona” talk, but people still are discussing the possibility of seeing the Heisman Trophy winner play in Kliff Kingsbury's offense. “At the end of the day, they're going to do what's best for them,” Murray said Monday night while picking up his Davey O'Brien Award, via Chuck Carlton of the Dallas Morning News. “I can't go into it with any expectations of being taken by the Cardinals.
