Home at Last

Today I came back home.  Though what I did not expect from the three hour train ride from Paris to Provence was that the train would be full, not one single seat empty. LA Apparel seeks to reopen after 4 workers die, 300+ test positive for coronavirus

Shuttered by Los Angeles County public health inspectors, garment maker Los Angeles Apparel on Monday, July 13, spent the day training factory staffers on physical distancing and sanitizing protocols after four workers from the plant died amid what public health officials called a “massive outbreak.” Inspectors ordered the South L.A. facility on 59th Street closed anew last Thursday, just weeks after it was originally shut down on June 27. CEO Dov Charney said the complex — which employs upwards...

LAFC use a late rally to tie with Dynamo in MLS is Back tournament

ORLANDO >> Los Angeles Football Club fell into an early hole in Monday night’s group stage match against the Houston Dynamo, but the team’s high-powered offense fought back to a 3-3 draw that earned LAFC’s first point of the MLS is Back tournament. LAUSD wrong to sacrifice safety for political expediency

The Los Angeles Unified School District board’s recent vote to slash its school police budget by 36 percent was a rush to political judgment that other school districts would be wise to avoid. The immediate fallout at LAUSD was bad enough. The school police chief quit and now the department faces what he called the “detrimental and potentially life-threatening” layoffs of 65 campus officers. But the real tragedy will be the loss of the trust and relationships those officers painstakingly earned ...

Adell also had a hard line out to center field. Although Ohtani pitched the day after he had hit in an intrasquad game, Maddon said it’s not in the Angels plans to use him that way during t...

Jim Carrey gets real in his satirical fictional memoir

By Jake Coyle When Jim Carrey and Dana Vachon handed in the book they had toiled on for eight years — a satirical “anti-memoir” about Carrey’s life but with increasingly extreme flights of absurdity — to Sonny Mehta, the late Knopf publisher said he would put it out as a novel. Carrey and Vachon protested. “But Sonny, the project was to blow up the celebrity memoir,” they argued. “Well, yes,” replied Mehta. “But how then would you explain the flying saucers?” “Memoirs and Misinformation,” which ...
