Clippers rookie Terance Mann takes confidence cues from veterans

No amount of sage advice could’ve prepared Terance Mann for his rookie season in the NBA; there simply wasn’t a blueprint for a season interrupted for four-plus months by a pandemic before being reset in a sealed-off Florida bubble. But though everyone involved is a rookie in regard to the situation and surroundings at Walt Disney World Resort, the game is the game, and the Clippers’ institutional wisdom for what works when you’re coming off the bench stands. “We follow the leadership of Lou Wil...

Dave Roberts on Dodgers’ offensive woes: ‘It happens every year’

LOS ANGELES — Dodgers manager Dave Roberts got defensive Wednesday when asked about the offensive potholes in his lineup. Four of the starting nine went into Wednesday’s game with batting averages below .200. Only two (Mookie Betts at .281 and A.J. Pollock at .280) were over .250 and the team had batted a collective .199 in the previous eight games (four wins and four losses). “It happens every year that a group of guys aren’t swinging the bat well,” Roberts said. “We have this conversation ever...

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Markieff Morris is ready to see his daughter again. He sees her now, over FaceTime, as the almost-3-year-old Jyzelle is clamoring to see him, too. USC football moves forward despite uncertainty surrounding potential spring season

The writing on the wall had been legible to the USC football team for some time. Yes, the Pac-12 had recently announced its new, conference-only schedule in an attempted adjustment in the middle of the ongoing pandemic, and training camps were allowed to begin on Aug. 17. But USC still didn’t have clearance from L.A. County to begin contact practices, and the likelihood of that happening on time was slim. That, combined with the news about just-discovered health risks posed by COVID-19, had the ...

Pink’s reopens, proving every hot dog must have its day

Twenty-one years after the Spanish Flu pandemic, Betty and Paul Pink opened a small hot dog stand in Los Angeles selling 10-cent hot dogs and sodas for a nickel.
