For Clayton Kershaw and Mookie Betts, coronavirus pandemic affects charities

ANAHEIM – Sunday afternoon, Mookie Betts will host a “grab-and-go giveaway” in Compton. The drive-through event at the Compton Town Center will offer free hand sanitizer, reusable face masks, food boxes, health screenings, and voter registration. By his own admission, Betts still doesn’t know much about the region he’ll call home for the next 12 years. He knew he wanted to help an underprivileged community after joining the Dodgers. This time he chose Compton. He partnered with Pull Up Neighbor,...

Rams coaches see no excuses as competition for starting spots gets serious

In a normal year, Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell and defensive coordinator Brandon Staley would have spent Saturday evaluating players’ performances in the team’s first exhibition game the night before. As it is, they were still gearing up for the Rams’ first full-bore, padded practice sessions, which don’t begin until Tuesday. A year of virtual coaching is about to get real for the Rams staff that must pare down the roster and choose the starters for the season-opening game against ...

COVID-19 sports consequences and gambling costs, even on the fantasy sports front

The coronavirus pandemic has not only affected sports leagues, athletes and fans, but also gamblers and the state tax collectors that have come to rely on that related tax revenue. Shortened seasons, revised playoff rounds, cardboard fans in stands. Still, Americans' love of sports and boredom with COVID-19 self-isolation, along with the events being televised, has helped the seasons continue. But the actual reduction in the games mean fewer events on which to place bets. Unless bettors make th...

Improving Strokes

Alois: First, I want to thank you for your "Improving Your Strokes? video.  I have MDS, a degenerative form of incurable blood cancer, and I need all of the efficient movements, like relaxing my shoulder, you have for me.  I play with older folks at 5 different clubs, 4 of which are closed for the virus.  The open one only allows just 9 players at a time and, with my condition, I'm reluctant to kick any of my friends off the rotation. Choosing Harris doesn’t absolve Biden of his bigoted record: Corrin Rankin

It was of little surprise to see that Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden selected California Sen. Kamala Harris to join his ticket as his vice presidential pick. After all, Biden’s decisions are controlled by his advisors. It’s likely that Biden’s advisors hope that having Kamala Harris on the ticket will help erase Biden’s controversial history with Black Americans. From his leading role in fighting against the desegregation of schools in the 1970s, to the “Biden Crime Bill” that led t...

How to relax

Nice video about relaxation and efficient strokes. But how to take it from there? Is there a systematic way to develop a more "relaxed" and efficient way of playing, once you realize that your playing style is too tense? Lakers practice early hoping to answer all questions

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — With days to go to their first playoff game, the Lakers had a couple “to be determined” categories left on their docket.
