Comment on spaghetti with swiss chard and garlic chips by Chelsea

Just made this. So good, but I am also very hungry and it is spaghetti and chard so how could it be bad. Wasn’t brave enough to do raisins (as a currants sub) but maybe next time, I’m curious.

Lakers, Trail Blazers feel the sleepy side of late-night tip-offs

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Terry Stotts was watching another NBA game on Thursday afternoon when his eyes fluttered. It only took the Portland coach a moment to realize he’d drifted off. The Trail Blazers have moved their entire schedule back in the day to accommodate late practices and 9 p.m. tip-offs at the Disney campus, and everyone from coaches and players on down are encouraged to sleep in. But even Stotts can fall prey to a mid-afternoon spell now and then. “It just shifts,” Stotts said of ...

No on Proposition 24, an overly complicated and misguided measure

The last thing California needs is another state regulatory agency that burdens businesses, especially now, as they adapt to an increasingly online model. That’s why voters should reject Proposition 24, the California Privacy Rights and Enforcement Act. Prop. 24 aims to replace the state’s current privacy law, the California Consumer Privacy Act, which was signed into law in 2018. The CCPA had its origins in an initiative backed by real estate developer Alastair Mactaggart, who qualified the mea...

Clayton Kershaw hasn’t turned back the clock — but he has turned up the speed

Clayton Kershaw has not found a way to turn back time. But he has found a way to recover some of what it took away. Through his first four starts this season, the Dodgers ace has reversed a four-year slide in his fastball velocity, regaining two miles per hour on the pitch. He averaged over 91.5 mph in each of his first three starts — the first time he has held that much velocity for three consecutive starts since his first three outings in the 2018 season — before falling just short with an ave...

Freeway gridlock is back and traffic is returning to pre-pandemic levels, new report shows

When the coronavirus pandemic hit in the spring, Southern Californians could point to a silver lining of free-flowing freeways and near-empty thoroughfares. Not anymore. A new study by the Southern California Association of Governments, a six-county planning agency, documented a massive drop in vehicle miles traveled (VMT) that since mid-May has nearly returned to pre-pandemic levels. Making matters worse, the matching plunge in bus and train ridership during the last two weeks of March and thro...

Anthony Rendon uses experience from 2019 Nationals as encouragement amid Angels’ slump

The Angels certainly didn’t plan to use this bit of Anthony Rendon’s experience, but here they are. Rendon was a member of the Washington Nationals last season when they started 19-31, only to turn things around and win the World Series. At that point, the Nationals had a 22.2 percent of making the playoffs, according to FanGraphs. Heading into Thursday’s game, after losing a franchise record 17 of their first 25 games, the Angels had a 13.9 percent chance. Rendon said the Nationals’ start last ...

Wednesday 19 August: Fraserburgh to East Lothian

Morning came too soon but it was welcome after a foolish night and frenzied sleep. Jeff got the Audi humming as we left Aberlour and headed off to our reunion with Fraserburgh. Unlike last year, we weren’t totally spent at round’s end, battered by wind, rain and links golf whimsy. At least I wasn’t feeling battered though Jeff might have been, given the whomping he’d taken on the course. Fraserburgh is everything in a golf club that I’d like to… Continue Reading →

Chargers’ Melvin Ingram practices for 1st time at training camp

COSTA MESA — Melvin Ingram makes his presence felt with his brash persona whenever he steps on the field, but he did more than recite rap lyrics for Thursday’s training-camp practice at Jack Hammett Sports Complex. Ingram returned to his rightful place on the edge of the Chargers’ defense line to end his non-participation streak. He watched from the sidelines to start the first week of padded practices because of what teammate Joey Bosa referred to as a business decision. It’s unknown if Ingram ...
