Braves erupt in ninth inning, beat Dodgers in NLCS Game 1

ARLINGTON, Texas — Whatever issues the Dodgers might have with the ninth inning this postseason, they are apparently not limited to Kenley Jansen. Austin Riley made a mockery of Globe Life Field’s spacious dimensions, launching a sinker that didn’t sink enough from Dodgers reliever Blake Treinen 448 feet into the seats in left-center field to start the ninth inning. Three more runs followed and the Atlanta Braves beat the Dodgers 5-1 in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series Monday ni...

Southern California Edison told regulators Monday, Oct. 12, that investigators were looking into the possibility that the Bobcat fire in the Angeles National Forest may have been caused by vegetation contacting a power line. Rams will bring rookie reinforcements into 49ers game

The Rams have started the season 4-1 while receiving little to no contribution from their top draft picks on offense and defense. But that’s changing now, just in time for the team to start play within the NFC West by facing the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara on Sunday night. Running back Cam Akers is back from an injury. Outside linebacker Terrell Lewis is back from a medical mystery. Both shook off rust in a 30-10 victory at Washington, making those position rotations fully healthy for the...

Trump letter causes a stir among food aid distributors, recipients

The freshly shipped packages contain cartons of eggs, jugs of milk, cheese, butter and meat, paired with hearty basics such as potatoes and onions. They are “super high-quality,” Manny Flores, executive director of North Valley Caring Services, said of the federally funded food pack they have been handing out over the past few months to families sitting in long car lines that loop weekly around an entire commercial block. Even with the North Hills food pantry’s best efforts to assemble their own...

The state issued cease and desist orders to the California Republican Party and local GOP officials in Orange, Los Angeles and Fresno counties over the use of unauthorized ballot drop boxes, Secretary of State Alex Padilla and Attorney General Xavier Becerra said Monday. Republicans have until Thursday, Oct. 15 to remove the drop boxes, which Padilla said are not legal. Recap Of Steve Yzerman’s Media Conference

from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press, Steve Yzerman used free agency to bolster the Detroit Red Wings at every position — not with marquee signings but with smart ones. He signed five players over three days and still has roughly $18 million in salary cap space. No one was signed for more than two years, which fits with how Yzerman is shaping the rebuild while waiting for more young players to make an impact. “It gives you the flexibility to do a lot of different things...

Whicker: Lakers (and the NBA) were true to the man championship trophy honors

Those who believe the NBA has become too political are forgetting the name on the trophy. “Politics is the art of the possible,” Larry O’Brien said. He stood near the place where Bobby Kennedy lay bleeding at the Ambassador Hotel.
