My most recent 10 - 10 experience

I played a best of 5 game in school just now with a friend. I won the first set and then my opponent won the next set. However since the time was almost up, the coach told us to play at 10 - 10 and the loser would have to do 15 push ups and 15 burpees. I took your advice to focus in the present, managed to save a match point and then won 14 - 12.  Pretty happy that I was able to control the pressure

Troy Percival has resigned as UC Riverside baseball coach, the school announced on Wednesday. Lakers, Clippers will begin 2020-21 season without fans in Staples Center

What would have made a championship sweeter, LeBron James said many times this fall, would have been to be at Staples Center, surrounded by the raucous embrace of Lakers fans. At the start of next season, he’ll only get half of that wish. The Lakers and Clippers will be back home for the 2020-21 season, but there will be no fans at Staples Center in accordance with state and local health guidelines as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. While it doesn’t come as a surprise in California, which has b...

Rams’ Jared Goff, Cooper Kupp must fix a dropped connection

THOUSAND OAKS — The connection between Jared Goff and Cooper Kupp has seemed so automatic, almost telepathic, in their four seasons as Rams teammates that you notice when it’s broken even briefly. It has been broken lately, most glaringly in the Rams’ surprisingly bad losses to San Francisco and Miami. There were uncharacteristic misfires by Goff. Rare dropped passes by Kupp, the biggest the one in the end zone against the 49ers. And times when the quarterback and wide receiver seemed to be work...

George Gascón’s big opportunities as Los Angeles County district attorney

The significance of George Gascón’s election to head the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office cannot be overstated. The office is not just the largest in the state, but the largest of its kind in the country. It is not all that surprising, then, that the race between Gascón and incumbent Jackie Lacey became an expensive proxy fight between the more conservative law enforcement status quo and the progressive criminal justice reform movement. Millions of dollars were donated and spent on ...

Irvine ready to host USA Swimming’s US Open in ‘controlled environment’

Only a few swimming competitions have been held in Southern California since the pandemic shutdown in mid-March. But starting Thursday in Irvine, high-profile racing will return to Orange County and the greater Los Angeles region as the Woollett Aquatics Center serves as one of nine sites nationally hosting USA Swimming’s U.S. Open. The three-day meet will feature about 240 swimmers – a mixture of U.S. national team members, collegians and high school standouts – and follow strict safety guideli...

Chargers continue RB committee with Justin Jackson out

COSTA MESA — Running back Justin Jackson paced on the Chargers’ sideline as distressed fantasy football players waited for his return last week against the Las Vegas Raiders. Jackson, who injured his knee on the opening drive, returned for one snap, but Chargers coach Anthony Lynn didn’t like what he saw from Jackson and pulled him for good. Jackson finished with three snaps for zero carries, zero receptions and zilch for his fantasy football owners, who assumed Jackson had taken the reins on th...

America needs healing, not retaliation

This week, the United States got a preview of the future envisioned for it by some of the far-left Democrats now stepping to the pay window to collect their winnings. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez warned on Twitter that Trump supporters would try to delete posts, photos and writings to conceal their previous political allegiances. “Is anyone archiving these Trump sycophants for when they try to downplay or deny their complicity in the future?” she wrote. An entity called the “Trump Accountabilit...

It was the 10th time an American League pitcher had won the Cy Young unanimously, none since Justin Verlander did it in 2011. New Gideon Overcrossing offers new connections and relief from delays

The new bridge as seen from SE 14th Avenue. (Photos: Jonathan Maus/BikePortland) Biking through inner southeast Portland got a little easier Tuesday with the opening of the Gideon Overcrossing. A common occurrence that will hopefully happen less with the new bridge available. (Photo: Betsy Reese) The $15 million bridge goes up and over four railroad tracks near the 12th Avenue MAX Station, offering riders relief from long delays caused by freight trains blocking nearby intersections. LA County’s surge continues: 2,152 new coronavirus infections

Los Angeles County reported 2,152 new cases of COVID-19 and 22 additional deaths on Wednesday, Nov. 11, bringing the county’s totals to 327,964 cases and 7,216 fatalities. The high number of new cases came one day after officials said it would be weeks before the county could move into a less-restrictive tier of the state’s four-tier economic-reopening roadmap. The county update did not include the latest numbers from Pasadena and Long Beach, which operate their own independent health department...
