On-point Kedon Slovis reminds of USC offense’s potential

Kedon Slovis was eager to get back on the football field after USC’s victory over Utah three weekends ago. The Trojans had won, but Slovis wasn’t fully satisfied with his performance. “Not my worst game in the world, but I felt like we left a lot out on the table as an offense,” the sophomore quarterback said. “So I was really looking forward to that Colorado game.” The Colorado game, however, was canceled due to a COVID-19 outbreak among USC’s offensive line. So Slovis’ return was delayed a wee...

Alexander: Are Anthony Lynn’s days as Chargers coach numbered?

Chargers coach Anthony Lynn was scheduled for his regular day-after-game Zoom briefing at 1:30 Monday afternoon. He showed up, as scheduled, and somewhere presumably money changed hands. NFL coaching tenures seem to be a fairly popular betting proposition these days. So yes, the fact that Lynn is still employed as Chargers coach might be considered an upset by some after the 45-0 embarrassment the New England Patriots delivered Sunday at SoFi Stadium. The most lopsided loss in franchise history ...

Chargers attempt to regroup with Anthony Lynn still in charge

The Chargers’ embarrassing 45-0 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday was the type of late-season performance that could have created impulsive changes – like the New York Jets did with firing their defensive coordinator on Monday morning. “Yeah, I expect to be the coach of the team tomorrow,” Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said in an agitated tone following the loss at SoFi Stadium. Lynn was correct. He remained the Chargers’ head coach on Monday and will be for the rest of the season, accord...

Camping banned under latest order, but what other outdoor activities are allowed?

Put away the tents and sleeping bags, but you can still get a thrill on a snowboard or explore a hiking trail to get outdoors. Since the coronavirus pandemic started earlier this year, Southern California’s natural areas have become a place where people seek a spot away from crowds, a way to get out of the house safely, and enjoy a bit of respite in nature. But this latest round of regional shutdowns by the state has some outdoor areas closed off to avoid transmission of the virus, though there ...

Rams’ Sean McVay studies history before rematch with Pats’ Bill Belichick

Super Bowl LIII is a bad memory for Sean McVay, XXII months later. “It was a very humbling night for myself,” the coach said Monday of the Rams’ 13-3 loss to the New England Patriots in February 2019. “I didn’t think that I did nearly a good enough job for our football team to give us a chance to be crowned world champs.” McVay said he doesn’t dwell on it. But this week, he’ll try to turn the bad memory to his advantage as the Rams (8-4) hurry up and get ready to face the Patriots (6-6) at SoFi ...
