Lakers vs. Celtics might lack its usual juice, but it could be telling for both teams

Normally in a year like this one, it wouldn’t be hard to talk up the NBA’s best rivalry. Look at the set-up for Lakers-Celtics on Saturday night: It’s got big names, with LeBron James and Anthony Davis taking on Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. The two head coaches, Brad Stevens and Frank Vogel, are friendly enough to make the matchup a little personal. The teams are both in the upper echelon of their respective conferences, so one could feasibly surmise they could meet again in the ...

Questioning Th Ratings

from Andrew Bucholtz of Awful Announcing, There are several key things to consider with ratings stories, including who’s providing the ratings numbers, what those numbers are being compared to, and what other context is out there. The Athletic’s “NHL TV ratings up as push to engage fans outside rinks breaks from tradition,” a story by Sean Shapiro that was published Friday, is missing a fair bit of important context. The piece is about the NHL “television boom,” but it cites a grand total...

Clippers adopt Tyronn Lue’s ‘through thick and thin’ motto

Remember, after Game 1, back on Dec. 22, when Tyronn Lue declared that the Clippers’ “camaraderie is great,” and insisted that despite any past grievances, his team would not only share the basketball but play with the ol’ one-for-all, all-for-one spirit? “That’s our motto for the season, like, we’re cheering each other,” Lue said after the Clippers beat the Lakers that night, delivering him his first victory as the team’s head coach. “When somebody does well, we want to be there. Online learning works best when building on structure and certainty

When Alyssa Cotter’s daughter began distance learning for kindergarten last August, it was a slow transition for her to adjust to school on a screen. “She didn’t know what she was missing out on,” said Cotter, a Rancho Cucamonga resident. “At the same time, it was really hard for her to focus and pay attention. We just tried to make the best we could out of the situation.” Cotter’s daughter is online with her classmates a couple of hours each weekday. At the halfway mark of the school year, and ...
