Lakers’ Jared Dudley won’t undergo MCL surgery, will stay with team for stretch run

LOS ANGELES — For almost any player on the Lakers’ roster, an injury as significant as a torn MCL is an enormous setback. Jared Dudley might be the lone exception. The 35-year-old has a way of making any discussion topic light, including his own right knee injury, which will keep him out of action for a minimum of three more weeks. His teammates wasted no time roasting him on Thursday when he sat out portions of practice icing his right knee: “‘How are you going to have ice on when you just had ...

Quick Recap- Detroit/Carolina

The Wings came out ready to play an NHL game.  I am going to stress the point, this is all Detroit fans want from their team and for at least 20 minutes, the Wings played the type of game expected of them.  Detroit up 2-1 after the first period. I thought Carolina had the better chances int the 2nd period although both teams added a goal.  After 40 minutes, Detroit 3 Carolina 2. No scoring in the 3rd until Hronek added an empty net goal. Wings win 4-2, Detroit goals below and a Bernier s...

Culver City Stairs built up a birthday appetite

For the first time in recent memory, my birthday fell on the day of the time change. As my dad put it in a FaceTime call the day before: “This means you’re going to lose an hour of your birthday. You’ll only have 23 hours.” Hello, officer? I’d like to report the theft of one hour of my birthday…Yes, I’ll hold. Incidentally, my ever-organized parents had already turned their clocks ahead on Saturday evening to get used to the new time. When we got off the call, I did the same. That saved me a few...

Just A Mirage

As the season winds down the 19 are trying to watch the Wings, and, find ways to stay positive about this team. Honestly, it's been pretty tough going for us fans to even show up for the LBs. It's going to be a rough ride for the next 27 games. Some nights we see a team that looks engaged, ready to play, but, it's just a mirage. The things we think we see as an improvement on any given night, disappear the very next game. Both Svechnikov brothers will be playing tonight so, at le...

Alexander: UCLA women make the best of a strange season

Team bonding has taken on a new dimension in Pandemic Basketball. Creating exercises to bring players together becomes a challenge when players can’t actually gather away from the court because of COVID-19 protocols. UCLA’s women’s team has, by the description of coach Cori Close, been strict when it comes to observing the new normal. That should put the Bruins in good stead heading into what she termed the “quasi-bubble” of the NCAA Tournament, which in the women’s case will be held completely ...

Wildfires made California air quality among worst in the world, even during pandemic

While pandemic lockdowns helped improve air quality worldwide in 2020, the U.S. saw its air quality worsen — particularly on the West Coast — thanks largely to record-setting wildfires. And while Southern California dominated the list of most polluted U.S. cities in 2019, the fires of 2020 moved that distinction to Central and Northern California, according to the annual report released Tuesday, March 16, by IQAir, a Swiss company that has partnered with the United Nations to create the world’s ...
