For Rams, Michael Brockers and John Johnson are big losses

When Michael Brockers tested positive for COVID-19 and had to sit out the last week of the 2020 regular season, the Rams missed the talkative defensive lineman at their practice facility as much as on the field. Coach Sean McVay spoke of his relief at hearing Brockers’ deep voice on his first morning back with the team. “Just hearing his laugh in the breakfast room, even though we’re spread out all over the place, it just felt like you were alive again,” McVay said in January. “Brock’s back, and...

Clippers still chasing ‘consistency’ Kawhi Leonard craves

You can bet billionaire Steve Ballmer’s bottom dollar that when Kawhi Leonard described the Clippers’ up-and-down play as “very concerning,” it stirred some real concern among the team’s fans, too. “I mean, it’s very concerning,” Leonard said Sunday night, when the Clippers chased an impressive 130-104 victory over Golden State with a lopsided 135-115 loss in New Orleans. “We want to have a chance at anything, you gotta be consistent,” the two-time NBA Finals MVP continued. “That’s what the grea...

Dodgers’ Kenley Jansen: ‘I know who I am. I know what I’m capable of doing’

GLENDALE, Ariz. — On the one hand, it was the pinnacle of his baseball career. Finally, the Dodgers won a World Series championship. But it also had to be painful for Kenley Jansen, the franchise’s all-time saves leader, to watch from the bullpen as someone else (Julio Urias) closed out the title-clinching game. “(It’s a) team sport,” Jansen said quickly when the question was raised during a Zoom interview Wednesday – his first time talking to the media since that World Series clincher. “When so...

Fact Check: Biden gets 3 statistics wrong in ABC interview

By Daniel Dale | CNN President Joe Biden sat for an interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos on Tuesday. Biden was generally factual in the interview, much of which aired on Wednesday. But he was wrong on three statistical claims. The context around two of these inaccurate claims suggests they may have been slips rather than purposeful lies. And on the third claim, regarding the history of the Senate filibuster, Biden explicitly told Stephanopoulos that he didn’t think the numbers he was u...

Rams TE Gerald Everett, DE Morgan Fox leave as free agents

The Rams got career-high contributions from tight end Gerald Everett and defensive end Morgan Fox in second-tier roles in 2020. That improved production turned out to be the ticket to bigger money elsewhere for both 26-year-old free agents Wednesday. Everett agreed to a one-year contract for $6 million with the Seattle Seahawks, division rivals who have seen enough of the 2017 second-round draft pick to know they’re getting an athletic pass-catcher with further upside. Fox agreed to join the Car...
