Ducks salute David Backes after loss to Golden Knights, their 4th straight

ANAHEIM — The game was done, another lopsided Ducks’ defeat, this one by a 5-1 score to the NHL-leading Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday at Honda Center. Most of the Ducks trudged to their dressing room, but a few lingered to shake hands with David Backes and pat him on his back. It sure looked like a farewell salute to Backes who played for only the 14th time in 48 games during this pandemic-shortened season, spending most of it out of sight with the Ducks’ taxi squad. The Ducks have only eight...

LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers could make room for more fully-vaccinated fans when they open their next homestand on May 11. Two sections on the Loge Level were opened to vaccinated fans for Saturday’s game against the San Diego Padres. The sections (approximately 500 seats) required fans to show proof they had been vaccinated and cleared the two-week waiting period required. Dodgers’ Corey Knebel could miss most of the season with lat injury

LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers’ gamble on Corey Knebel looked like a good one — until Friday night. Knebel suffered a strained lat muscle in his right shoulder that will sideline him for most if not all of the season. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said there is no tear and surgery is not planned. But Knebel will be out indefinitely. “There was an MRI. I don’t know the grade (strain),” Roberts said Saturday. “I do know that he’s going to go on the IL. It’s going to be a few months looking out. I don’t ...

California’s ‘climate leadership’ does more harm than good

In February, California State Auditor Elaine Howle released a scathing report that scorched the California Air Resources Board for failing to demonstrate that its costly programs reduce greenhouse gas emissions, create jobs or have socioeconomic benefits. It’s important reading, because California’s wildly expensive model is about to go national. The premise of California’s policy is that government requirements and regulations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions will control climate change, whic...
