House OKs land/rivers bill preserving 1 million acres – much of it in LA County

LA County discovers 806 additional deaths missing in first record of winter surge

Los Angeles County health officials said Wednesday, Feb. 24, they had discovered 806 additional deaths that were not yet accounted for after looking back through death records following the recent surge. Coronavirus tracker: California reported 3,495 new cases, 228 new deaths and 149 fewer hospitalizations Feb. 21

The end-of-day totals from California public health websites for Sunday, Feb. 21, reported 3,495 new cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases there have been in the state to 3,509,219. The 14-day total of new cases, 8,188, is down 80.6% from the Jan. 1 high of 42,268. There were 228 new deaths reported Sunday, for a total of 49,340 people in California who have died from the virus. There were 7,165 people needing hospital care, a 68.7% drop since the Jan. 1 high of 22,853. ...

NORTH HILLS — A fire in a building in North Hills burned for 24 minutes Thursday morning before being extinguished by firefighters. Crews responded at 2:39 a.m. to the structure at 16650 Schoenborn St., near Hayvenhurst Avenue, and found fire burning on the second floor, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
